Obituary of Thomas Bernard Rogerson

With shattered hearts we said goodbye to Thomas Bernard Rogerson on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. He passed away in the comfort of his own home just as he wished, surrounded by those he held dear to his heart. He was the beloved husband and soul mate of 50 years to Daisy (née Keats), devoted father to Walter Rogerson (Leanne) and Corey, adored Poohpa to Kennedy, Travis and Mavis, cherished brother to all four of his number one sisters Gail Jewer
(the late Benny), Linda DeTracey (the late Butch), Lorraine Lessard (Ricky) and Maureen DesChamps (Junior). He will also be terribly missed by his fur-grandbabies Sandler, Boomer and Bowie. Tom was greeted at the gates by his parents
Virginia (née Rivard) and Walter as well as his fur babies Mandy and Sandi.

Tom was born in Verdun, Montreal. He grew up with a Catholic background and dropped out of high school at the age of 18 to work as a medic in the military, where, he met his life long friend Wolfgang Thonert. Four years into his military career, he was medically discharged, and had to change course to provide for his wife and soon to be son’s. At the age of 58, 40 years after dropping out of school, Tom would finally achieve his high school diploma.  He was a hard worker, a blue collar kind of man, working in the manufacturing sector as a material handler so he could spend as much time as possible with his family. Tom was the heart and soul of his family while Daisy was the rock and driving force. Together they built their little family unit.

Tom with the help of his wife, raised 2 strong willed men and was very proud of each of their accomplishments in life, while helping them through their failures. He loved coaching his two sons in baseball, but also loved umpiring, which he did for over 40 years. Feeling at home in-between the chalk lines, as he understood the rules of baseball more so than the rules of life.  He was known as the mint man, then the candy man, to all the kids who were fortunate to play
in front of him.

In his leisure time he could be found, sipping a rum and coke watching sports and being with his friends (Al and Jeanette Feron, Terry and June Reynolds and Wolf and Liz Thonert. His sense of humor was what stood out to most, his quick wit will be missed by everyone who had the opportunity to know him. But his compassion and heart shined brightest to those that knew him best.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. A celebration of Tom's life will be held at a later date.
Until then, enjoy a rum and coke and raise a toast in his honor. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Diabetes Association or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.

The obituary that was written was spot on, Tom was indeed all of those things and more. I have many happy memories of chats about music, great Saturday games of charades and Sunday morning baseball games Tom was always good natured and loved to have fun. Hardworking, good father, husband and an athlete to boot. The loss of a such a special person will leave an empty hole but a life well lived to remember him by. Hope there is rum, coke and sports in heaven!

hearing of your passing brought me so many memories …though parting of our paths we raised families and created new friends…you put together a very talented band in times when good music was part of our lives…having butchs drums with practice made you a very talented drummer…there was Allen .John ..Bobby ..Mike ..me making good music of the times…although we parted ways we had a lot of talent making up the band … then there was cottage time with sing alongs everyone enjoyed singing around the fire… then came Daisy ..kids ..baseball.. and all things in between…a full life lived …you will be missed but not forgotten…

So much of my childhood was wrapped up in softball, and wrapped up in the friends and parental figures that surrounded those diamonds. The Rogersons were a part of that. Tommy was a singularly kind, honest and funny person. On the field, he was one of the few who could admit ‘he missed one’. His love for the game and for his family never wavered. I am thankful to having had thr opportunity to chat with Tommy one last time this past summer at Jin’s place while we were honouring Al; another whose passing left a giant hole in everyone’s heart. Sending my love out to the whole Rogerson clan.

Tom was a lot of fun. We had such a good time with him and Daisy at his sisters home playing cards. Quick witted and suffering no fools around the table, Tom kept us in stitches with his sense of humour or was it the refreshments. We will always remember him fondly. Our hearts are with you Daisy and your family during this difficult time.

My condolences to you all. I had the pleasure of meeting Tom and the first time was a hoot. Playing euchre with him, Wally and Leeanne, and his quick wit and jokes had me constantly laughing and smiling. I’m so sorry for your loss of a great man. My love to you all in this time of life and beyond.
