Obituary of Ruth Woitowitz "Sophia"

Peacefully in her home and surrounded by love on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, Ruth was set free from her "dungeon" and released from her struggles with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS). She said goodbye to her loving family: her parents Horst and Donna, brother Steve and his wife Susie. She was a proud aunt to Tagen, Haley, Bea and Gibb. She was also survived by her Uncle Wayne and Aunt Judy, Uncle Archie, her cousins: Paul, and Mark (Joan) and their daughter Kayley. She has been reunited with her beloved sister Faith and with her fur babies Holly and Ashley.

Ruth will be dearly missed by many friends and special caregivers. We will remember Ruth for her loving and caring disposition. She was an integral part of the MCS community and a longtime volunteer for ASEQ-EHAQ, where she was known by her alias "Sophia". Ruth belonged to a ladies knitting group, who were some of her dearest friends. She would often knit stuffed animals for children living in women's shelters, and enjoyed crocheting, cross stitch, rug hooking and making gifts for her family and friends.

For many years Ruth struggled with many obstacles relating to her MCS and housing situation. One of her favourite quotes was "When I said it couldn't get any worse, I didn't mean that as a challenge!" Sometimes it was hard for people to see her illness, especially when she would share her sweet smile, innocent laugh and unwavering support for those in need. She was humble and often in disbelief by how many people reached out to support her; which we would all attest was not hard to do. She felt comfort by being surrounded by her drawings in her room which offered inspirational messages to make it through each day; "For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength." - Philippians 4:13.

A special thank you to her caregivers, therapists and doctors who went above and beyond helping Ruth through her journey, also to her friends who were her beacon of light through the darkness she faced. Ruth said she wouldn't have made it as far as she did without the love and support of each of you.

Keeping true to Ruth's caring nature, she wanted to leave a positive impact on our planet. She chose a green burial for the sake of being eco friendly, free of any chemicals, and to "Bring me back to nature; which will be the closest I've been since I was a child." On Monday, February 28th at 11am, Ruth will be buried in Willow's Rest at Fairview Cemetery, 4501 Stanley Avenue, Niagara Falls, Ontario. Friends are welcome to join via Zoom (the link and instructions can be found below). As an expression of sympathy, Ruth requested that memorial donations would be given to ASEQ-EHAQ (Environmental Health Association) or to your local Humane Society.

Please take care of yourselves, 'cause I care . . . and I'll see you again one day!!!
Lots and Lots of Love
From

Ruth

Ruth was a good person, youtful in many ways. I knew her for several years, never having met her face to face. Ours was the digital world and we enjoyed one another’s company there. I will miss her jokes and cut-to-the-quick questions. RIP, dear girl.
