Obituary of Rocky Allen Leishman

It is with sadness, but with peace that we share that our beloved Rocky is now resting in God’s eternal love. He passed away peacefully after a long struggle with his health, surrounded by his family on Monday, February 26, 2024, at the age of 66. Six months after the passing of his father, John (2023), Rocky will be forever loved by his mother Margaret. He was a dear brother to Scott (Lynn), Steve (Sally), and Pam (Greg). Uncle Rocky will be remembered by Eric, Ben (Taylor), Sarah (Josh), Tabi (Andrew) and Abi (Kevin). He was survived by his aunts and uncles; Clint (Ann), John (Lynda), and also by extended family and friends.

Known for his charismatic and unique personality, he had a great passion for working on cars, a hobby that he pursued while listening to his favourite country music. His persistence towards hand-washing and waxing cars were all part of a labour of love that brought him immense joy. He was a man of simple pleasures, and found delight in gathering around campfires, especially at the campgrounds in Byng Park in Dunnville and Arkwright in Fredonia, and indulging in eating many hotdogs cooked over an open flame. He relished over his favourite meals like bacon, eggs, sausage, sauerkraut, or anything prepared by his beloved mother. Rocky was the first-born child in his family and had a special bond with his mom. As a tradition, he would always bring her flowers, because he knew it brought a sparkle to her eyes, and it was his special way of sharing his love with her. He cherished time with his brother in-law Greg and favorite sister Pam, spending countless hours on the porch and offering a helping hand whenever needed.

Rocky's professional journey took him from the canning factory in St. David's, to the Stelco plant in Welland to a machine shop in Mississauga, eventually leading him to a fulfilling career in transit. Another tremendous joy was starting his own driving school, teaching many inexperienced drivers road safety and important driving skills (which many people to this day truly appreciate his guidance). He spent time as a school bus driver, and further into his career, he drove a city bus in Niagara Falls and later St. Catharines until his retirement. Outside of work, Rocky found solace in his passion for guitars, and was a car enthusiast along with his lifelong friend Don Uskin. He was also an enduring fan of the Montreal Canadiens. He cherished all the hours shared over cups of Tim Hortons coffee with his brothers and he always enjoyed the moments of one-on-one time with family members and friends.

In October 2023, when Rocky was experiencing rapid heart health deterioration his faith and life choices was something he had uncertainty and concerns about. A special conversation shared with his brother Steve, gifted Rocky with the assurance of God’s love for him, and a reminder of the ultimate sacrifice Jesus made to forgive our sins. A seeking Saviour and a seeking sinner will always meet, It was at this time Rocky accepted Christ as his Lord and Saviour, and he lived his remaining days with hope and peace, knowing one day he would see his Saviour face to face and for all eternity enjoy the splendor of Heaven.
Rocky’s humorous personality and big heart touched the lives of many people over the years. He will be remembered by those who knew him. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to his health care workers in Welland, St. Catharines and Hamilton, for their assistance and support they gave him over the past 4 years.
