Obituary of Martin (Marty) Burton

It is with profound sadness that Marty's family announces his sudden passing on December 14, 2022 at the age of 73. Marty leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend of 52 years, Joan (nee Glover). He will be so missed by his cherished fur baby and walking buddy, Esme. Loving brother to Blaine, Julie (Nick) and Bonnie (Dennis). Dear brother-in-law to Catherine (Joe), Doris (Leo) and Mary Ellen (Bill). Marty will also be missed by his cousin Darryl (Carolyn) and many nieces and nephews.

Marty was born on February 27, 1949 in St. Catharines, growing up in Merritton. Here, he met Joan when they were teenagers, eventually marrying in 1970 and spending the rest of his life with her. Marty worked as a Machine Operator at Hayes Dana for 40 years. Upon his very brief retirement, he spent an additional 14 years working at the Grand Niagara Golf Course as a Starter and Marshal. Marty had a passion for golfing and fishing. So many fond memories were made fishing at the French River for years with his fishing buddies, or spending time at the cottage in Huntsville with the Burtons.

Anyone who met Marty loved Marty. He was charismatic, kind, had a wonderful sense of humour and definitely had the gift of gab. He made friends everywhere he went, blessed with the ability to strike up a conversation with whomever he crossed paths with. This might have been on his daily 5 mile walks with Esme, or during his coffee club get-togethers. He will be forever missed by those lucky enough to have known him.

Special thanks to Marty's neighbour Helen and her friend Shay for their support and assistance during such a difficult time.

In keeping with Marty's wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements are entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Diabetes Canada.

I will always remember Marty from my days working at the Credit Union in the plant at Hayes Dana. In fact I just saw Marty not too long ago and he introduced me to Esme.
Always a smile and a joke to follow. Joan, thoughts and prayers going out to you.
