Obituary of Jean "John" Joseph Valmont

Jean "John" Joseph Valmont, born on April 9, 1942, in St. Boniface, Manitoba, passed away suddenly at the age of 82 on April 22, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and humility that will be cherished by all who knew him.

John was married to his beloved Gisele for 62 years, and their bond was a testament to enduring love. Together, they shared a beautiful journey marked by mutual respect and unwavering devotion.

A devoted family man, John treasured his role as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his cherished wife Gisele and their children: Nicole (Evan), Ginette Torretta (Alfonso), and Paul (Louise). His grandchildren Justin (Danielle), Nicholas, Alexia, and Victoria (Lucas) Seal, Genevieve Marion, Jasmine Kaulback (Devin), and Dante Torretta, Gabryelle Dorge (Eric), and Sophie Valmont. Great-grandchildren Adara, Kaia, Adeline, Charlotte, Penny, Perry, and Louanne. John’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life, and he took great joy in their accomplishments and milestones.

Throughout his life, John exemplified integrity and humility. As a welder for 45 years, he contributed his skills to numerous important projects, yet remained modest about his achievements. His work ethic was unwavering, and he approached every task with dedication and precision.

A man of many talents, John had built two homes (and a half) for his family, embodying his belief in the value of hard work and self-reliance. He embraced new challenges with enthusiasm, never shying away from trying something new or different.

In his leisure time, John found solace in the great outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling, especially when shared with his son Paul. He also grew up playing hockey and had a passion for the sport all throughout his life.

Despite his outward stoicism, John had a soft spot for animals, nurtured through his daughter Nicole's farm. His quiet love for furry friends brought joy to those around him, a testament to his gentle spirit.

In keeping with John's wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements are entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. A celebration of John's life will be back home in Manitoba with his family and friends, date to be announced later.

John Valmont will be remembered for his unwavering integrity, his quiet strength, and his profound love for his family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

The Kubans had a really great time with John and his family—road trips to Camperville, Clear Lake, the Broken Down Ranch in Fargo, campfires and sing-a-longs where John belted out the French songs, many family vacations in Mexico—well we remember the good times and John’s joie de vivre. Condolences to Gisèle and her wonderful family. All our love, Charlotte, Shane. Rayann, Jolene and Jack Kuban.
