Obituary of John "Jack" Poulter Bates
Jack, 81 passed peacefully at home, his wife of 62 years, Pat (Smith) by his side. Predeceased by parents, John and Margaret (Poulter), in-laws Ruth (Young) and Herbert Smith, daughter Maxine, grandkids Nghia and Baird Badger, siblings Charles "Bunny" (Ann), Enid Angus (Dunc), Harvey (Lois) and brother-in-law Ron Davis.
Survived by children, Wanita (Liz) and Fenton (Sue), grandpa to Sterling Ross, step-granddaughters, Jackie Bessems, Dana and Chris Burkey, Emma and Hayes and friends, Candy Stewart, Steve Baird and Nicole Thompson.
Brother to Eric Bates (Heather), Ken (Brenda), Sandy (Bonnie), Llew (Donna), Dawn (Glen Keller), Peter (Diane), Heather Fox (Johnny), Pat Kingsbury (Harry), Irma Maxwell (Dave), Sherry Davis, brother-in-law, Irwin Smith and nieces and nephews. Jack was
a Millwright by trade and retired from ADM Milling (Maple Leaf Flour Mills) in 2009. He never stopped working and was a faithful volunteer for Reach Out Food Centre.
Special thanks to Drs. West, Meyers, Wright, and the fabulous palliative home team of Dr. Kim Scher, nurse Dawn, Jocelyn, and Colleen. Special thanks to Fenton and Sue, Ken and Brenda, Kenda and Ron Gillespie for their loving support of Jack over the last year. Cremation has taken place and a future gathering will be held in Avoca, QC.
