Obituary of Joan Ellen Allen (nee Stapleton)

ALLEN, Joan Ellen (nee Stapleton)

Passed away peacefully at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Friday, October 2, 2020 at the age of 93. Joan has been reunited with her late husband Robert Allen. She will be greatly missed by her beloved children: David (Catherine) Allen, Donald Allen, Doug Allen, Debra Stacey, (the late Alan), and Dale (Cathy) Allen. She was a loving Nanny to seven grandchildren, a great Nanny to twelve great-grandchildren, and a great great Nanny to six great great grandchildren. She will also be missed by all of her extended family in the UK and USA. She is predeceased by her parents Ethel Stapleton and Arthur Stapleton, and by her brother Gord.

Joan had an immense love for animals. Throughout her life, she has had many pets that have stood by her side. To show her appreciation for her animal friends, she would often donate to Seal Rescue and the World Wildlife Fund. Joan loved to get lost in the imaginary world of fictional novels especially those by her favourite author, James Patterson. Some of her books have been donated to the Cavendish Manor in her honour. She also loved to spend her time watching T.V. shows such as: Coronation Street, Criminal Minds, and CSI. She loved her family very much. Joan was a very strong and independent woman.

The family wishes to extend a big thank you to Cheryl and the staff at Cavendish Manor for their special care and support. Arrangements are entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133). Cremation has taken place. An interment will take place at Holy Trinity Cemetery, where Joan will be reunited with her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to the Niagara Falls Humane Society.

Sorry this is so late. I just found Joans obit. I work at Cavendish and Joan was quite a character. Scratching her back and fixing her TV was a 6x a day happening. Those darn buttons on the remote! She could fall asleep in an instant, sandwich still in hand. Always could make her laugh with her silliness. Ive read quite a few of the James Patterson books at the Dish, always wondered who adored him. There are a lot of his books. Her room is still vacant and when I pass it, I think of Joan with fond, funny memories. RIP Joan. Take care everyone.
