Obituary of Helen June McInnis

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Helen June McInnis (nee Shook) on October 4, 2021, with family lovingly by her side at the Greater Niagara General Hospital. Helen will be greatly missed by her beloved husband of 57 years, Paul McInnis. Her three children, Tammy, Derek, Wayne and his wife Sandy, will forever cherish the memories of their mother. She will be remembered by her grandchildren Devon, Allan, and Tamara, as well as her great grandchildren Avery and Tye. Helen will be fondly thought of by her brother Clarence Shook (Helen), sister-in-law Arden McArthur, brother-in-law Craig McInnis (Sina) and many nieces, nephews and cousins who loved her dearly. Helen was predeceased by her parents Marie Clara (David) and George Shook, her sister Helen June and brother George. She will be dearly missed by longtime friends who she considered sisters in her life.

Helen was born and raised in Welland, Ontario. She married the love of her life Paul, on December 19, 1964, after falling in love one summer night. From that day forward they built their life and raised their children on the foundation of love, commitment, teamwork and togetherness. Helen was as equally dedicated to her career of many years in the Transportation Industry as supervisor for Niagara Parks Commission as she was to ensuring a comfortable home life for her family and being, “the best hockey, lacrosse and sports mom ever.” Helen was extremely knowledgeable and genuinely cared about the well-being of everyone within and outside of her family who sought her out as their, “go to person” for guidance and support. She was a woman of many talents who also enjoyed a variety of artistic creative hobbies over her years as much as she did cooking, baking, working directly alongside her husband, sporting events, Bingo and knitting when she finally settled down to relax. Helen celebrated each day with the fullness of her life and her beautiful giving heart will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

As per Helen’s wishes cremation has taken place with funeral arrangements entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133). A celebration of Helen’s life will be arranged by her family, and will take place at a later date. Her family requests memorial donations be made to the Walker Family Cancer Centre to acknowledge their gratitude for the many dedicated doctors, nurses and health care professionals who made it possible for Helen to live a quality of life extended over a 20 year battle with cancer. Thank you to the loving family, cherished friends and caring neighbours for reaching out to Helen’s family to support them during this time of great sadness and loss. Online condolences may be shared on Helen’s tribute page found at EssentialsNiagara.com.

Paul, our hearts go out to you and your family in your time of sorrow! The death of a loved one is one of the most painful experiences in life. Losing Helen leaves us all with sadness and heartache. May we remember the happy times and hold tight to them. Helen was special in that she had this wonderful, welcoming, down-to-earth personality; always thinking about others and quick to help out. She was our “google” before there was a Google; she would remember facts and dates about everything and everyone. We will be forever encouraged by her positive nature; her strength; her fortitude! Helen, you were a trooper!! You will remain in our hearts forever.
Paul, Tammy, Wayne and Derek – “Tenderly, may time heal your sorrow. Gently, may your friends ease your pain. Softly, may peace replace heartaches. And may the warmest memories remain.”
Love Craig & Sina
