Obituary of Garnet Lenore Gough

With saddened hearts we announce, that in the early hours of Tuesday, April 26, 2022 Garnet left us to be reunited with the love of her life of 56 years, Albert Gough (2021). She leaves behind her brother Bari, her sisters-in-law Edith, Donna, Billie and Sadie as well as many nieces and nephews. Garnet was also reunited with her sisters, Norma and Margery as well her sisters-in-law Pearl and Louise and brothers-in-law Howie, Harvey and Raymond.

From a young age, Garnet always had a fascination with photography, which she always pursued. She would pull over at the side of the road to snap a shot of an element of nature that caught her eye. However, her lifelong dream was to raise purebred Arabian horses. At the age of 19 she purchased her first horse! After she and Albert were married in 1965, they purchased a farm in Port Robinson and High Hopes Farms was born, producing very prestigious, award winning horses. These were great accomplishments for the residents of Niagara and a small breeding farm.

After retiring, Albert and Garnet became snowbirds and enjoyed twenty-one very happy winters together in Florida. In the summer, you could find Garnet poolside at Shalamar in Queenston with a good book in her hands. They loved to spoil their nieces and nephews! Having no children of their own, they would take them on camping trips, to the movies and to the zoo.

After she lost the love of her life, Garnet lived out the rest of her days at Upper Canada Lodge in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Her family would like to thank the staff for their care and compassion.

In keeping with Garnet's wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905 354 2133) A graveside service will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Thorold on Monday, May 9, 2022 at 11 a.m. If desired, donations in memory of Garnet may be made to Whispering Hearts Horse Rescue or to The Alzheimer's Society.
