In Loving Memory of
Elizabeth Wilson-Zorzetto
1954-2024
Obituary of Elizabeth Wilson-Zorzetto
Elizabeth Wilson-Zorzetto passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family at Hospice Niagara on March 16, 2024. Cherished mother of Claudia (Chris) and Alicia (Brian). She will be remembered as the warm and welcoming “Bibi” who always made time for her grandchildren Logan, Payton, Keira, Lily, and Gwen. Beloved sister to Gina Marie and auntie to Colin (Grace), Fiona (Alex) and Emily. Liz will be dearly missed by her family and friends who filled her with love and joy throughout her battle with pancreatic cancer. Although we are saddened by the loss of our mother, there is comfort to know that she is now reunited with our dad, and her soulmate Claudio (Claude).Liz was born in St. Catharines on June 28, 1954 to parents Ned and Carmel Wilson and enjoyed a happy childhood in Thorold, Ontario. Being the eldest child, she often reminisced about her younger brother Pat, who sadly passed away as a young boy. In her early twenties, Liz crossed paths with Claude, who knew from the moment they met that they could have a wonderful future together. Liz was initially less convinced but Claude's valiant efforts, combined with gentle nudges from her mother Carmel - always an excellent judge of character - eventually led to Liz agreeing to a first date. Their bond flourished, and they shared countless moments together throughout their 44 year-long marriage, until Claude's passing in 2021. Family summer trips to lake Temagami always held special importance to Liz. Equally cherished were the romantic but rustic fishing excursions to Georgian Bay, where Claude’s pursuit of catching the “Big One” surpassed any desires for luxurious accommodations.
Liz's unwavering faith remained the cornerstone of her life, evident through four decades of volunteering with Catholic Engaged Encounter and two decades of work with the Diocese of St. Catharines. Through various commitments to the Diocese, Liz cultivated enduring friendships that enriched her life. She possessed a remarkable ability to connect with others; extending warmth and hospitality to all who crossed her path. Alongside husband Claude, Liz frequently opened her home to gatherings, where every occasion was marked by hearty laughter and delicious food. Among Liz’s fondest memories were journeys to Las Vegas visiting her dear friend Chris, lively day trips to Buffalo to see her best pal Mary, and countless day trips, dinners, parties, outings, book club meetings and simple chats with many friends who, to Liz, were more like family. Liz was everyone’s best friend.
Special thanks to the healthcare professionals, staff and volunteers of Hospice Niagara; your compassion and devotion to palliative care gave our mom the dignity and comfort to enjoy life until her last moment. We truly do not have the words to express our gratitude for the love, care and friendship that all of you showed our mother. As an expression of sympathy, donations to Hospice Niagara would be appreciated by the family.
In accordance with Liz’s wishes, cremation has taken place and funeral arrangements are entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133). All family and friends are welcome to the Funeral Mass and a celebration of Liz’s life that will begin at Our Lady of the Scapular Church, 6557 Thorold Stone Road, Niagara Falls, on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 11:00am with the Rite of Committal to follow at Fairview Cemetery, 4501 Stanley Avenue, Niagara Falls.
