Obituary of Elizabeth "Betty" Higgs
After a brief decline in her health, Betty passed away peacefully at the St. Catharines General Hospital, on Friday, March 8th, 2024. She has been reunited with her beloved husband Geoff (2023). She was a loving and devoted mother of Sue (Paul), Dave (Sandra), Glenn (Carrie), Wendy (Bill) and Diana (David). Cherished Nanny of Danielle, Janie, Sarah, Marc, Eric, Curtis, Jessica and Sean. Proud great-grandmother of Ivy and Cooper. Dear sister of Jack (Pat), Ken (Christina) and was predeceased by her brother William. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, longtime friends and neighbours.Betty will be remembered for her unwavering love and concern that she always had for her family. She was always the first person to arrive at any gathering and the last person to leave. Regardless of what the occasion was, it was her duty to help set up, clean up, and most importantly, make sure everything went off without a hitch. She was admired for her baking skills, making her signature deviled eggs and irresistible butter tarts. Not to mention Nanny's legendary casserole – dishes created by love, only by her unique touch, and unmatched by any other! Above all, family held the utmost significance in her life. Any time spent with her loved ones brought her great happiness. Nanny would generously spread joy to her grandchildren by creating traditions, like where she gifted a loonie for each year celebrated at everyone's birthday. This was not only a token of affection but a testament of one of many ways she would try and make these events extra special. Also throughout life, Geoff and Betty enjoyed adventures travelling and embracing any opportunity to create memories. Although we have been touched with sadness, our family will reflect and celebrate Betty's 83 years of life with gratitude and love.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements have been entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. A private family ceremony will be held and she will be laid to rest with her parents at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences may be shared on Betty's tribute page found at EssentialsNiagara.com.
