Obituary of Colin James Nelson

Peacefully passed away surrounded with love and family on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, at the age of 79. Colin will be forever loved by his wife of 59 years, Nancy. A proud and supportive father of Jim (Darlene) Nelson, Debbie (Carlo) Mazzotti and Colleen (Bryan) Vanderloos. Cherished Papa of Jimmy, Andrew, Lisa, Eric, Megan, Cassandra, Amanda, and 7 great-grandchildren; Bentley, Ava, Braxton, Mila, Leilah, Makena and Malea. Dear brother of Valerie (Len) Small, Ian (Vicky) Nelson and brother-in-law of Colleen (Mike), Beth (Rob) and Kim (Merv). Colin will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

In his earlier years, Colin discovered his passion for racing stock cars and found fulfillment in raising his family and living in Thorold for 47 years. He dedicated his professional life to General Motors, retiring in 2005. A proud member of the Niagara British Car Club, Colin's enthusiasm for automobiles was infectious, and he could often be found tinkering with cars or lending a helping hand to those in need. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the team at Oakwood Park Lodge for their support through the past 3 years.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are welcome to attend a gathering at Essentials Cremation and Burial Services, 4300 Drummond Rd, Niagara Falls, on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm with special Words of Remembrance being shared at 8:00pm. An interment will be held at Lakeview Cemetery, 3651 Thorold Townline Rd, Thorold, on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 11am. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations can be given to the Alzheimer Society or to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences may be shared on Colin’s tribute page found at EssentialsNiagara.com.
