Obituary of Andrew Cassells McBride

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Andrew McBride at Hospice Niagara on October 28. He was in his 86th year. Andrew was a loving husband to Eileen, and father to Russ (Teresa) and Tracey (Laura). He was the deeply loved Grandpa to Andrew (Ksenia), Alesia (Ian), and Benjamin. Andrew will be remembered fondly by his sisters-in-law Margaret (Bryan), Helen (John), and Jean (the late Jim) and his nieces and nephews in Canada and the United Kingdom.
Andrew and Eileen came to Canada in 1972 from Belfast, Northern Ireland to give their children a chance at a better life. It was a remarkable sacrifice to make and their children are forever grateful for their parents having done so. Andrew worked for many years as a foreman at Firestone Tire and Rubber in Hamilton, and later at Eaton Yale. He earned a reputation as a tireless worker who was a role model for others.

In retirement, Andrew would take long walks every morning and became a much recognized figure on these outings when wearing his bright orange toque. What Andrew loved more than anything was family. He was happily married to Eileen for 57 years. He doted on his grandchildren, rarely missing a soccer or hockey game, Kung Fu exhibition or the chance to spoil them and make them laugh and smile. They are all devastated
by his passing.
Andrew’s family would like to recognize a number of people who were involved in his care over the past year. Thanks go to Dr. Koudos and Dr. Conen at the Walker Cancer Centre for their efforts and their kindness. Also, thanks go to Dr. Manser, Dr. Dooler, and Nurse Pratibha Verma from the Niagara Region Palliative Care team for the excellent care they provided. Very special thanks go to the team at Hospice Niagara (Nurses: Kendra, Mych, Jessica, Drew, Suman,Meighan, Amanda,Jen, Danielle, Barb. PSWs: Jeff, Chris, Sande, Frances. Chef: Judi). This wonderful team took loving care of Andrew and his family enabling him to have a
beautifully peaceful death after many days of suffering. We cannot thank them enough.
Essentials Cremation and Burial Services has been entrusted with arrangements. As per Andrew’s wishes, cremation has taken place, to be followed by a private interment. Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life which will take place on Saturday, November 5 at the Delphi Banquet Hall (4414 Portage Rd) in Niagara Falls from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. As per the family's request, all guests are asked to bring and wear a mask while in the Delphi Hall. Brief remarks and reflections at 1:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to Hospice Niagara or the War Amps would be appreciated by the family.

This life for me has truly passed
I loved you all till the very last
Weep not for me but courage take
And love one another for my sake
