Obituary of Sandra Elaine Wood

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sandra, after a very brief illness and with her family by her side on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the age of 80. Beloved wife for 60 years to Lyndon. A dedicated mother of Scott (Sandy) and Chris (Cathy). Proud and loving Grandma of Austin, Ashley, Courtney, Nicky, and Grace. She is survived by her sister Sharon Milne and will be remembered by extended family and friends. Sandra has been reunited with her parents Lyle and Gwen.

Sandra was part of the Thorold community, remembered fondly as someone whose presence was as reliable as it was delightful. Her 32 year journey with Bell Canada began as a switchboard operator, where she quickly became the go-to person for her customers and colleagues alike. Sandra was also a 20 year sales representative for Avon, where she managed her own clients and sold a variety of products that were offered through the Avon catalog. Beyond her professional life, Sandra’s community spirit had her involved in different ways. Her meat pies were a staple at church fundraisers, and for many years Sandra and Lyndon were often seen at these events as they were parishioners at St. John's Anglican Church.

Her dedication to the community was also seen in her love for the Merrittville Speedway. Whether it was delivering the latest flyer or meticulously ensuring Lyndon's white crew uniform remained spotless and freshly pressed, Sandra embraced the racing life that has been part of her family for the past two generations. Her passions didn't end with the checkered flag. As an avid golfer, she enjoyed the serenity of the greens. At home, the scent of her baking was always a special treat, especially when she would bake her annual Christmas cake or when she would recreate the best relishes that were passed down through family recipes.

Sandra’s garden was a haven for butterflies and a testament to her love for nature and the great pride she had for her home. Her friendship with Bonnie and Lauren McNeil was a source of endless joy, as were the moments shared with Lyndon, over a glass of white wine and stories that would fill the air with laughter. As the matriarch of her circle, she instilled values of order, precision, and discipline—qualities that guided her life and influenced those she loved. In reflecting on Sandra’s life, every part of her is in the vibrant legacy that she leaves behind.

Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the medical team in the St. Catharines ICU, for their compassionate care and support. In accordance with Sandra’s wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements have been entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. A celebration of Sandra’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be given to the Lung Association Canada. Online condolences may be shared on Sandra’s tribute page found at EssentialsNiagara.com.

I was blessed to know and spend some time with Sandra over the years. What a beautiful person she was.
She was always genuinely interested in my family’s life and I appreciated that.
I wouldn’t dare buy Avon from anyone else! And she could mix a good rum and coke for sure. Loved the lady!
