Obituary of Robert "Rob" Gregory

Robert "Rob" Gregory, peacefully passed away at his home, surrounded by his family's love, on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the age of 50.

Rob leaves behind his soulmate and best friend of nearly two decades, Sarah Ranalli, and their children, Johnny and Chelsea, who he loved more than anything. Predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Audrey (née Edwards), and his cherished furry companions, Tucker and Cozmo, he will be missed by his siblings, Ray Gregory (Sherry Gratton) and Laurie Bye (Jeff), as well as his niece and nephews. Rob held a special place in the hearts of his in-laws, Gary Ranalli (Pat) and Janice Simpson (Richard Andrews), and will be fondly remembered by his many friends, particularly those from his years at Dofasco and his Northern Buddies.

A tenured Journeyman, Rob dedicated himself to his work at Dofasco Steel, but beyond the workplace, he loved the outdoors and found joy in the simple things — time with his family, fishing excursions, backwoods camping trips, engaging discussions about politics and world events, and watching CNN. He reveled in friendly competition, whether on the pool table, golf course or playing Risk, and was always doing something around the house or cottage. With his trademark Leaf's ball cap on his head and a seemingly bottomless cup of tea in his hand, Rob was affectionately known by his friends and colleagues as "Oscar". But despite his tough exterior, he had a gentle soul and an infectious laugh, and his intellect, reliability, and thoughtfulness endeared him to all who knew him.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the PSWs from the Bayshore, Paramed nurses Kim and Jocelyne, and Dr. Manser for their compassionate care, allowing Rob to remain at home during his illness. They also thank the staff at the Hamilton General Hospital and Juravinski Cancer Centre, as well as the countless friends and family members who provided unwavering support throughout the past ten months, with special appreciation to Dave Rolston, Darrell Cleveland and Emma Bates.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services in Welland. If desired, donations in memory of Rob may be made to Niagara Dog Rescue or OVC Pet Trust.
