Obituary of Marilyn Elizabeth Walters

Marilyn Elizabeth Walters, born on July 2, 1943, died peacefully on April 27, 2024. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, John and Maggie Duncan, and her brother Bruce, his wife Ann, and her sister Margaret. She is survived by her devoted daughter Cindy (Ed) Kennedy, cherished son Brian, grandchildren Natasha and Matthew (Elana), and great-grandson Brooks. Marilyn also leaves behind her brothers Donald (Alice), John (Grace), and Leslie, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends Ila, Lois, and Jenny, who held a special place in her heart.

As a hard-working single mother, Marilyn devoted her life to the well-being and happiness of her children. In her later years, she embraced the joy of social connection, finding fulfillment in her volunteer work at the Port Thrift store. Her dedication to service cultivated deep friendships.

Marilyn found companionship in her weekly swimming group, followed by cherished lunches and laughter with her dear friends. She treasured her annual trips to Alberta to visit her brother Les on his ranch, where she found peace amidst the beauty of nature.

Marilyn had a passion for baking and creating recipes in the kitchen. You can still enjoy “Aunt Marilyn’s Carrot Cake” at Nature's Corner Bakery in Ridgeway, owned by her nephew and his wife.

Marilyn will be fondly remembered for her unwavering love, boundless kindness, and immense loyalty to friends and family. Her legacy of compassion and service will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In keeping with Marilyn's wishes, cremation has taken place, and arrangements are entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wainfleet Brethren In Christ Church, or the Canadian Cancer Society, in Marilyn's memory. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Forever in our hearts, Marilyn's spirit will live on, a beacon of love and light to guide us through the days ahead.

My condolences to the family. We met Marilyn in a neighboring apartment. She was befriended by our daughter who, at the time, was only 3 yrs old. She would wave to Marilyn everyday through the window and hold conversations with her. She was such a sweet woman and she will be dearly missed.
