Obituary of Hugh James Bromley

Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on June 16, 2024 at the age of 49. Hugh was the adored husband of 21 years to Allison (nee Voogt). Cherished father to his three girls, Hayley (Alex), Audrey and Alyssa. Beloved son to his late parents, Hugh and Debra. Loving brother of Ryan (Mary). Dear brother-in-law to Peter (Joan) and John (Missy). Much loved son-in-law to John and MaryAnn Voogt. Hugh will also be fondly remembered and missed by his nieces, nephew, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Hugh was the proud Owner and Operator of Bromley's Lawn & Landscaping, which celebrated its 25th anniversary this year. Hugh poured his heart and soul into his work, oftentimes working from sun up to sun down and loving every moment of it. His commitment to excellence and integrity earned him the respect and loyalty of countless customers. Hugh loved the outdoors and had a passion for hunting, and every fall he would eagerly join his childhood friends for their annual hunting trips, a tradition that brought him immense joy throughout his life.

You could not meet a nicer man than Hugh, and he will surely be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour, his little endearing quirks, and for always having a smile on his face. Hugh was also known for his unwavering selflessness and readiness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He would literally give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Hugh's selflessness and tireless work ethic inspired everyone he met. To know him was to love him.

Special thanks to Dr. Julie Woods from Hospice Niagara for her guidance and support during this difficult time.

Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at St. John Ukrainian Catholic Church, 91 Lakeshore Road, St. Catharines on Friday, June 21 at 11 a.m. Reception to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Niagara would be appreciated by the family.

"Forest, lakes, dawns, campfires, quiet talks, long walks, shared laughs, best of nature and friends."

I work at Cogeco where Hugh would take care of our grounds in the heat of summer and storms of winter. I don’t think we ever even knew each others names but each time I saw him he greeted me like a friend. Always with a beaming a smile. We would share a minute or two of conversation and then we would both go on with our tasks. Each time I would walk away and say to myself what a great guy. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Hugh was a kind soul like no other. He was so sweet to my parents before their passing, my dad was so incredibly fond of him. His kindness will forever have a place in my heart. Our deepest condolences to his amazing wife and his beautiful girls. We are heartbroken for your sadness. I hope the fact that Hugh was so well loved and respected by so many people near and far, brings you some comfort in this difficult time.
All our love, the Romero family.

I was a customer of Hugh’s when I lived in Niagara Falls on Pine Grove. When Hugh began to cut my lawn, it was a time when I had just lost my husband to cancer. The first time I arrived home after Hugh had been to my home, I found the lawn cut, trimmed and cleared exactly as my husband had done. It was such a warm feeling for me to see the lawn done to perfection! Hugh helped me adjust to this new way of life that I was in and I will never forget him. You lost a good man in Hugh. May your future without him, be comforted knowing that he was one of the best.

Ryan, Mary, Allison and family. The Bromley kids grew up across the street from us. Hugh and Ryan were just as sweet as their parents. We would have water fights with the neighbourhood kids and have so much fun. We will always remember those days.. Ryan, Dan and I are so very sorry for your loss. Please take comfort in all your memories and know we are thinking of you.
