Obituary of Edith Ohliger

Peacefully in the early hours of Thursday, April 11, 2024, Edith passed away with her family by her side at the Welland Hospital, at the age of 83.

Beloved mother of Anita Bulhoes and Ron (Tammy) Ohliger. Cherished Oma of Kylie, Jake, Jesse, Jordan and Jennifer. Edith is survived by her dear sister Ursula (Bruno) Taiariol and also by her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Gary Ohliger (1995) and by her brother Walter (Doreen) Zoller.

Edith was a longtime resident of Ajax, Ontario, where she dedicated significant time throughout her life to working in a German deli. She enjoyed travelling, which took her across the globe. Edith always said if she could move anywhere, she would choose Austria, as it was her favorite destination. In later years, she moved to Welland to be with her family. She found happiness engaging in senior clubs for social hours and cherished moments with her friends at Woodlands of Sunset. Known for her sociable nature, Edith’s greatest joy was simply being surrounded by her beloved family and friends.

Her passion for life was infectious, whether she was tending to her cat, sharing stories, or having a good laugh over a cup of tea. Her warmth and laughter will forever echo in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.

A special thank you to Edith’s personal support workers who attended to her at home, and to the ICU team, especially nurse Katrina, at the Welland Hospital for the compassionate care that they provided.

In accordance with Edith’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-734-1031). In memory of Edith, memorial donations may be given to the Scott Mission in Toronto.
