Obituary of Angela Susan Adkin (née Bates)

It is with great sadness that we announce that on Sunday, May 19, 2024 Angela Susan Adkin (née Bates) passed away at the NHS-St. Catharines Site at the age of 72.
She was the devoted wife to Patrick for over 51 years, loving mother to Alison and Susan (Michael) and a cherished Granny to Ben, Olivia, Natalie and Hayley. She will be terribly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will be remembered fondly by all her family and friends, both locally and in England.
Angela was admired for her compassionate outlook on life and her ability to always see the best in others. As a 10-year volunteer with the Greater Niagara General Hospital, she enjoyed her role in assisting hospital staff and visitors in various support activities. She was active during her early years in supporting children’s welfare as a Family and Children’s Services (FACS) volunteer. She also enjoyed her involvement in several other children’s and animal charitable causes. Her knitting and sewing abilities produced many fund-raising items over the years for these organizations. Angela was also a skilled dressmaker and designer. She gave many hours of her time for years as a theatrical costume maker with Garden City Productions (GCP) in St. Catharines.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of Angela's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services in Niagara Falls. If desired, donations in Angela's memory may be made to the Walker Family Cancer Centre.

So sorry to learn of Angela’s passing. Angela was a volunteer within our nursery school for many years, we appreciated all she did with us to help put smiles on the children’s faces. Her presence lit up our classrooms. May she rest in peace

We were six years old when we first met in the school playground and became inseparable. Angela was an amazing person, who never had a bad word to say about anyone. We spent all of our time together until we reached eleven years and attended different schools. Even then we managed to meet up at the local park at weekends, or meet at our grand parents, who by pure chance we found out lived next to each other.
I was so worried when I heard Angela, Patrick and family were moving to Canada, but I didn’t need to be. We managed.to spend several holidays in Canada with Angela, Patrick and our families.
I am going to miss our phone calls Angela. Who am I going to share your infectious laugh with?
Our thoughts are with all of Angela’s family at this sad time.
We’ll never forget you Angela!

In loving memory ...
I/we pledge to make a memorial donation.

What sad news it was to hear of Angela’s passing. So many happy memories of times in Derby, hearing all about life in Canada and talking about the differences in lifestyles. I still have ‘Naomi’ my teddy bear that you made for me around 50 years ago!
I will remember your gentleness, your laugh, your ability to make me feel so important by remembering everything about my life each time we talked. Birthday cards and Christmas cards full of details about the ‘girls’.
Thank you for being a very loved and treasured member of my world.

ANGELA ADKIN – My life long special friend has left this earth, but is now watching over us, especially her family and friends from afar. There will always be part of me missing as we grew up together. She gave so much of herself to her family and to her various charities that she supported. I’ve known her since we were at Junior school, 7 years old, We played together and we took ballet lessons together for about 7 years and gained a number of certificates, and badges. She was very gifted with her sewing and designing clothes, toys, wedding gowns and also her knitting for all of the family and her charities. She had so much talent to give to this world.
Angela taught herself to play the piano – by ear, and would manage to copy the various pop songs/tunes so well, especially the Beatles songs, as she was mad on John Lennon. She was very good at art and went to the Joseph Wright School for Art, in Derby, England, she had won a scholarship to go there, at the age of 13.
You were a really special, constant friend and I’ll miss your emails where we would ‘talk’ about our children and share the good happy things and the not so good worries. We always spoke about our childhoods – the funny things we did and things we would say.
You’ve left this world, but you have left many memories behind.
Rest in peace and comfort. From your best friend, Diana xx and my children Suzannah and Timothy xx
Love to Patrick, Alison, Ben, Olivia, Susan, Michael, Natalie and Hayley.
