Obituary of William George Spaan
With broken hearts we announce the death of our beloved William on Saturday, June 27th , 2026, at home with his family by his side.Bereft by the loss of a loving husband and father, are his wife Helen of 39 years and daughters, Madeline and Adele (Ryan).
Predeceased by his parents Joe and Rosabelle Spaan, he will be fondly remembered by his sister Pearl Peritalo (late Pekka 2010), brothers Warren (Dierdre), Glenn (Mary), Robert (Marita) and Allan (Elizabeth).
He will be deeply missed by countless brothers and sisters-in-law overseas, especially sisters- in-law Jean (George) Yazaroglu, Imelda Kellow, Veronica Ryan (Mark), and his adored ‘Sista’, Miriam (John) Windmoller.
William is lovingly remembered by a large and wonderful family of nieces’ nephews and cousins scattered around the world.
Will was a kind and generous man with a warm spirit. He was an excellent cook, known for his great steaks, sandwiches and perfectly mixed drinks. A talented handyman, he could fix just about anything.
He especially enjoyed spending time at the beach with many treasured trips to Ahmic Lake and Cuba over the years.
Our family cannot adequately express our gratitude for the love and support we have received during this terrible journey. The many acts of kindness -rides, meals, and offers of help – have meant more to us than words can say.
We are better for having had him in our lives. He was deeply loved, and he will be profoundly missed. We will feel his absence always.

Dear Helen, Madeline, Adele, and the entire Spaan family,
My heart is deeply saddened to learn of Will’s passing. I had the honor and great pleasure of knowing him through his wonderful trips to Cuba, and I hold the memories of the days we shared at the Hotel Playa Costa Verde with immense affection. Will was a special person—his warmth, his generosity, and his joy made any moment spent with him unforgettable. Beyond being a great friend, he was an unconditional support for me during my stays, always willing to lend a hand and share his wisdom. His departure leaves a huge void, but his legacy of kindness will live on in my memory and in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to cross his path. I have no words to express my gratitude for his friendship and for everything he did for me. I send all of you a strong embrace and my deepest condolences. May the love that unites you and the beautiful memories you built together bring you comfort and peace during these difficult times. Rest in peace, dear Will.
Helen, you and the girls have our most sincere condolences on your deep loss.
Eternal rest grant unto to William O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.
