In Loving Memory of
William "Bill" Topping

Obituary of William "Bill" Topping
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Bill at the age of 92 at NHS-St. Catharines on December 2, 2023. He will be very sadly missed by the love of his life, his partner and wife of 34 years, Mary (Timbers). Bill was born in Belleville on September 29, 1931 and predeceased by his parents Alvina (Burleigh) and Harold William Topping of Deseronto. Bill will be lovingly remembered by daughter Lianne Timbers-Sharp (Paul) . Also loved by grandchildren Renee and Justin, who will miss their Poppa's quirky sense of humour and his jokes. They will especially remember Poppa's 90th birthday with the slot machine cake and his love of the Vegas Golden Knights. Many good memories of holidays and birthdays over the years. Bill will also be lovingly remembered by daughter Sandra Gottwald (Gary) and granddaughter Melissa in Calgary. Bill will be greatly missed by his siblings, Shirley Houle of Oshawa, Lynn Davy (Bob) of Midland and Clint of Bancroft including his nieces and nephews, neighbours and friends. He will be sadly missed by the 2nd love of his life, our cat, Tigger and our granddogs , Maisey and Luna.Bill was an innovator throughout his life. He excelled in electronics and had a security alarm business in Hamilton for many years. Bill was an inventor. He built an electric golf cart, nurse call system and many other gadgets. Bill always had foresight and created solutions to problems and obstacles. He always thought outside of the box. Bill could fix anything or thought he could. Nothing ever overwhelmed him. Many renovation projects, thought impossible by Mary, were done by Bill. He was always up to a challenge. He was an artist and creator to the very end. He always had to have an ongoing project and he was active in his workshop until his fall at home. He made unique tables, the last of which was a birthday present for Lianne.
Bill was a caring person and would do anything for his Mary. Bill and Mary enjoyed their travels over the years, the many cruises, road trips and adventures. Special memories from winters spent in Myrtle Beach with friends and family. Bill and Mary were avid dancers throughout the years. Bill was an excellent cribbage player and enjoyed his games at the Coronation centre. Over the years Bill was a kind son-in-law to Oma, Mary's mom and Nana Timbers. Bill and Oma enjoyed many challenging crib games and the occasional trip to the casino. Neighbours knew Bill from his cheery whistle, his brisk walk and the glint in his eye that went with his dry sense of humour. Bill fought very hard in the end, but this was something he couldn’t fix.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services in Niagara Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lincoln Humane Society.
Special thanks to Dr. Reimer at Shaver Hospital, Lindsey and the Palliative care team and nurses at St.Catharines Hospital for their compassionate care. We also wish to thank the many friends that reached out and supported our family throughout this difficult time. Online condolences may be shared on Bill's tribute page found at EssentialsNiagara.com.
God saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb, so he closed your weary eyes and whispered ‘Peace be Thine’.

I am so sorry for your loss Mary,to the family as well
I’m so sorry for your loss, Marry. ❤️. I am so grateful to have met Bill.
My appreciation goes to Bill for for his assistance whenever I needed it (electrical, plumbing, building my back steps) and other helpful guidance. As neighbours we didn’t socialize much but one thing for sure, we did have some interesting conversations, especially comparing our winnings and losses at the casino. Going to miss that whisling when Bill did his brisk walk to get the mail.
Mary: Not everyone is so fortunate to have had such an easy going, gentle, thoughtful husband. My condolence for your loss.
Bill was always a ray of sunshine even on the most cloudy of days. So glad we got to know him first as a neighbour then as a friend. Please accept our sincere condolences Mary. ????????????
Our sincerest condolences, at this very difficult time, to Mary, Lianne and Family. May Bill rest in peace. Deepest regards, Jim, Bev and Family
My deepest sympathy to you and your family Mary. I always enjoyed your stories about Bill as we walked the Bruce Trail together. He sounds like he was always full of life and curiosity…a man who knew joy and gratitude for a life well lived.
My condolences to you and your family, Mary. The obituary paints a portrait of a man who lived life to the fullest.
So sorry to hear Bill has passed. The obituary was a nice tribute.
We did know when Bill was outside in the neighbourhood by his whistle.
Will be thinking of you Mary & the rest of the family.
Keith and I are thinking of you Mary,, and Lianne and family. Bill will be missed so much by so many. We are so glad you were able to visit with us this past August. Bill was his usual self and looking so well. He has amazed us all with living to 92 after all the health problems he has had over the years. The ever ready bunny had nothing on Bill. Rest in peace Bill. Hugs to you Mary and family.
