Obituary of William “Bill” Groves

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of William “Bill” Gordon Groves announce his passing on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at the age of 61. After a three-year long battle with cancer, he passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

Bill leaves behind his loving wife Darlene, children, Ashley (Daniel), Chris (Felisha) and his fur grandson Atlas. He was the son of the late William and Shirley Groves and brother to Vicki (Tim) as well as the son-in-law of the late Douglas and Mary Cartmell.

He spent most of his life behind the wheel of his tractor trailer, which is where he found joy. Bill enjoyed waking up before the sunrise to go out on the boat fishing with his friends. He found happiness in the simple things - a cold beer, cigarette, a good laugh and a hot meal.

Bill was known by his friends as “Groovy” and was always there to give a helping hand. If you needed a concrete pad done or wood cut - he was there. He made friendships throughout his life that he will cherish, but he had special love for his “family” that he made on Thomas Street.

He was the person we went to for everything. What we will miss the most was that he was genuine and unapologetically himself. Our world will never be the same.

Essentials Cremation and Burial Services has been entrusted with arrangements. A viewing will take place at Essentials, 4300 Drummond Road, Niagara Falls, on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, from 6:00pm–8:00pm. Those attending visitation will be asked to provide proof of double vaccination and identification. Cremation will follow. In support of Bill’s love for the Boston Bruins, please feel free to wear a hockey jersey if attending the viewing.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Niagara Dog Rescue.
