Obituary of Wayne Edward Montgomery
Wayne passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday April 26, 2022 at the age of 74. In his final days, Wayne was surrounded by his family and an abundance of love. A loving and devoted father, he will be greatly missed by his children: Anne Elise (Adam Leslie), Ian (Laura) and Blair. Proud Grandpa of Eden, Asher, Silas, Lincoln, Lilah, Alex and Peyton. Wayne was a dear brother of Ron (Phyllis), Dan, and Keith (Jane), and uncle to Sonya (Burt), Mark, Jason (Lisa), Heidi, James, Scott and Jeremy. Wayne has been reunited with his parents Ted and Margaret Montgomery. He will be missed by many extended family members and friends.Wayne is a Brock University alumnus, and proudly dedicated over 30 years teaching mathematics at Beamsville District Secondary School, all spent in the same 2nd floor classroom. He happily retired in 2001, yet continued in his love of teaching as an in-car instructor for Aapex Driving Academy, as well as supply teaching and tutoring.
One of Wayne’s greatest passions in life was music. He thoroughly enjoyed playing trumpet and was a proud member of both the Lincoln Concert Band and the Jimmy Marando Swing Band. Music gave him such joy throughout his life, a joy he shared with his whole family. Wayne also had an interest in sports. He enjoyed hockey, golf, baseball and basketball as a player, spectator, coach and umpire/referee.
Wayne’s faith was extremely important to him. Bethany Community Church was his church home for over five decades, a meaningful place of community and fellowship.
Our family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Salib of the Walker Family Cancer Centre and to Dr. Lepp for their excellent support. Also, to our brother Blair, for taking the best care of dad and for always being there to assist him in many ways through his illness.
In accordance with Wayne’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements are entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133). Mr. Montgomery was one of the all time best math teachers ! He taught me math back in the 80’s at BDSS. He definitely contributed to my love of numbers . So sad, too young! My condolences from a past student .

My longtime, talented, true friend of utmost integrity will be greatly missed. I offer my sincerest condolences to the Montgomery family.
Mr Montgomery will be remembered as a fine teacher and a great person toward someone who wasn’t good at math. My condolences.
Our condolences to the family. May God’s peace and strength surround you and your memories warm your hearts always. Wayne had such a beautiful soul. He’d always bring a smile with a joke and his sense of humor.
Mr Montgomery was my favourite math teacher in high school. I came into his Grade 11 class having barely passed Grade 10 math and feeling like I would never understand the subject. Over the course of that year, I went from barely understanding to getting high 80’s and even some low 90’s and ended up with an average just under 80. I still knew I would never have a career as a mathematician but when I left that class, I left with such a boost in my confidence. What made the difference was that Mr Montgomery was not intimidating and was so patient. He truly exemplified what a teacher should be like. I was pleased much later on in life that I met him again at Bethany and had the opportunity to tell him how much his teaching made a difference in my life. My sincere condolences to his family. He touched the lives of hundreds of students at BDSS and we were all the better for it.
Mr Montgomery is the only reason I passed grade 12 math. He worked with me tirelessly to help me learn. I recently told my daughter about him and what a good teacher and person he was. My condolences to the family. He was an amazing man and will be truly missed
Wayne was a fine man and musician who I enjoyed knowing in the Lincoln Concert Band. It isn’t the same without his trumpet sound, and pleasant manner in conversation. He will be much missed. My condolences to the family and I hope many happy memories will come your way.
