Obituary of Walter S. Medulin

It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my Father, Walter Stanley Medulin in his 94th Year. Predeceased by his wife, Emma Toth (1985), and his son, Kenneth Medulin (2005), and sisters Ann and Mary. Survived by his wife Beverley, his daughter Pamela Carrera (Sam), sisters Helen and Rose, grandchildren, Francesca Wood (Brad), Emma-Lea Morrison (David), Biagio Carrera (Jeannie), Greg Medulin (Lisa) and Mark Medulin (Rachel) and 10 great-grandchildren. Walter lived a full and long life. He retired from GM as a Millwright 44 years ago. He could quite literally fix anything and did so without being asked, and would just show up with his tool box.

Walter was multi-talented and self taught in many of his passions. An avid Golfer all his life, he organized several tournaments and won several championships in Niagara Region over the years. He tended and manicured the putting greens (as yet another hobby) at a friend’s golf course so you can just imagine how beautiful our lawn at home was when I was growing up. He loved to see life through a camera lens forever capturing moments of laughter, beauty and peacefulness. His passion for photography and videography led him to put many of his photos on disk to preserve the memories for all of us. He owned the first computer in our family (a Commodore 64) and here, he found his love of technology and in later years Stock Trading.

Walter and Bev took on building a new house when he was 88! They travelled across Canada and US extensively over the years. Our favorite trip with him was to France, Spain and Italy. He loved music, played the harmonica and was forever quietly humming a tune. (that tune would always stay with me all day!) Walter was a simple man, with a strong character and could be quite stubborn. He loved to debate and “solve the problems of the world” over dinner and glass of wine. He asked very little from anyone, and only wanted to know that we (his family) were all OK.

My Dad was the first man I ever loved and the only Man to Love me my whole life has now gone to a better place. His reflection will remain in our eyes forever. Dibolshia Nostrovia (Dad’s Favourite Toast) Thanks to Palliative Care at GNGH for their exceptional care and to Father Greg of St Julia’s Church for his love and support and attendance. As per his wishes, cremation will take place with a Private Family Celebration of Life.
