Obituary of Vito Michael Fuccillo

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Vito Michael Fuccillo, who died on July 15, 2025, at Hospice Niagara, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

He will be deeply missed by his two children, Christopher Fuccillo and Maria Fuccillo, as well as their mother, Kathleen Betrame. Vito took great joy in being a proud Nonno to his four grandchildren: Anthony Fuccillo, Christian Fuccillo, Gabriel DiPietro, and Chiara DiPietro.

He is also mourned by his beloved sisters: Rosemary Fuccillo (Mauro Mattiuzzo), Frances Fuccillo, Lucy Fuccillo (Tom Cernigliaro), and Nancy Genovese (John Genovese), along with his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Vito was predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Catarina Fuccillo. Lovingly known as Nonno and Nonna to his children, they created cherished memories of Sunday lunches and having family dinners at their favorite restaurants. Vito is now reunited with them, and together they will watch over the family who loves them deeply.

Vito’s journey began in San Fele, Italy, where he spent his early childhood before immigrating to Canada in 1953 at the age of five. He settled in Niagara Falls, where he spent the rest of his life. He attended NFCVI High School, Vito formed lifelong friendships and was known for his warm, outgoing nature and ability to connect with everyone he met. Growing up in Silvertown, he developed many hobbies and passions. As a teenager, he began playing the drums and eventually joined a band, performing at weddings, parties, and many more. Music remained an important part of his life, and he will always be remembered as a talented and passionate drummer.

Vito was deeply proud of his Italian heritage and embraced the traditions and culture that shaped him. He even made a return visit to his hometown of San Fele to reconnect with his roots. His love of food was legendary among family and friends, especially his enjoyment of meals shared at Napoli Ristorante Pizzeria. Though loyal to his favourites, he also developed a love for sushi. One of his final cherished moments was sharing an extra-large pizza with extra mushrooms, one of his last wishes, with his family by his side. A lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan, Vito admired goaltender Johnny Bower, a fitting connection as he once played as a goaltender himself. His passion for hockey was matched by his love for fishing. He enjoyed fishing throughout his life and one that earned him the title of a true fishing enthusiast.

When his children were young, Vito often took them to Sherkston Shores, where they created lasting memories together at the beach. His daughter Maria continues to find peace in the water and the natural elements of the earth, a reflection of their shared experiences. In addition to his love for nature, Vito also had a great appreciation for art and design. He was particularly inspired by the work of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, whose vision and creativity captured his imagination.

In his memory, we invite you to open a can of Diet Coke, his favourite drink, one he always kept nearby, as a simple tribute to a man who will be remembered with love, laughter, and deep affection.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice Niagara for their support, guidance, and compassion during this difficult time. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

In keeping with Vito’s wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Hospice Niagara in his memory.
