Obituary of Victor Ernest Rutledge

RUTLEDGE – Victor Ernest 1925-2021

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Victor at his home on July 25, 2021, at the age of 95. Devoted husband of Ina. Loving father of Carol, Steve, Donna (Beau), Terri, stepfather of John (Leslie) and David. He will be missed by his 6 grandchildren; Cory (Joanne), Jennifer (Mark), Cameron, Abby, Jack, Connor and 3 great grandchildren; Rebeka, Maya and Elena. He is survived by his sibling Bruce (Jill), nephew Chris and nieces Julie and Cheryl. Predeceased by his first wife Helen, parents Russell and Doris and brother Garry (Mary).

Born in Toronto, Victor trained as a Lancaster tail gunner during the final days of WWII and then began his career with Avro Canada until it closed in 1959. Hired shortly afterwards by the Toronto Transit Commission, he became a construction estimator and inspector of subway construction until his retirement 33 years ago. Vic was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 71, Fort Erie.
With a family on the way, Victor built the family home in Georgetown, Ontario and lived there until his four children moved away, at which time he and Helen moved back to Toronto. In retirement, they became snowbirds to Florida, which he loved, until Helen’s passing. He then married Ina and they continued the snowbird lifestyle until just a few years ago. Things that Vic loved included renovating, gardening (especially tomatoes), ice cream, music, and dancing, but enjoyed nothing more than the simple things like spending time with family. Vic’s dedication to his family and all who knew him will reside in our hearts forever.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and palliative care staff for their tremendous support.

In keeping with Victor’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will gather graveside at Fairview Cemetery for a private interment later. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Essentials Cremation & Burial Services 102-A 4300 Drummond Road, Niagara Falls were entrusted with the arrangements.
