Obituary of Troy Alexander Huisman

Passed away peacefully at home from natural causes at the age of 51. Cherished father to Samantha and Justin Huisman. Lovingly remembered by his parents, Ernie and Rosalee Huisman. Dear brother of Lisa Colosimo (Frank) and Amy Schaubel. Troy will also be missed by his nieces Selena Colosimo, Leah Colosimo, Mariah Colosimo, Kiara Colosimo, Emma Bell, Aileen Schaubel and nephew Christian Bell. He will be sorely missed by his best friend and furry companion Charlie.

Troy worked for Bethesda Services for many years assisting those with special needs. Eventually, he became a Liaison for those with special needs requiring legal services, a job in which he took great pride. Troy will be remembered as a huge car aficionado, especially when it came to Ford Mustangs. He delighted in any opportunity to take a drive in one of his own Mustangs. He also enjoyed riding his electric bicycle.

In keeping with Troy's wishes, cremation has taken place. An interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery in the springtime. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

I shed more than a few tears when I got the news of Troy’s passing. Troy was the first person I met when we moved to the Falls in 2014. We quickly become good and then best friends. We worked on several small reno jobs together and he installed the back splash tile in our new kitchen. He quoted a price that was too low for the job and after thinking about it I called him and told him that I could not in good conscience accept his low quote and had to offer him more. He was a very talented ‘jack of all trades’ and assisted me in several other repairs of our home. We often talked about starting a reno biz together and we joked that he as the better carpenter would oversee the work but I had to do the quotes because he always quoted too low for the job. Very smart computer guy and we talked ‘tech’ often. We enjoyed many road trips to ‘The Nations’ for smokes, usually discussing the meaning of life, and how best to cope with the challenges we all face, along the way. We had many lunches and dinners at each other’s homes, and cold ones on the deck, that are some of my most fond memories. With covid and other life challenges we drifted apart over the past couple of years and I truly regret that. I thought about him every day. I will continue to think about him and the friendship we had. He would often ask me about how I coped with life and I would tell him what I did to stay sane and focused. But the most salient thing I told him and held true to was that “I would always tell him the truth and never lie to him”. He was a good man and a good friend and I will miss him. Rest in peace brother. You left us much too soon. You will always have a place in my heart, mind and soul.

I worked with Troy at Bethesda and was friends with him outside of work. Troy was amazing with the special needs individuals he worked with. He was a very kind and funny person. Sending my deepest sympathies to all of his family and friends. May the memories you have help to comfort you during this very difficult time. 💕
