Obituary of Trevor Ross Stratton
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Trevor Ross Stratton on November 20, 2023 in Welland, Ontario. Trevor was the precious son of Gwendolyn (nee Lehman) and Herbert Ross Stratton. Beloved father of Trevor jr, Peter (Lisa), Rick and Ray. Stalwart Grandfather of David Laing, Phil Stratton, Glen Stratton, Victor Stratton and Mars Stratton. Brother of late siblings Lee Stratton, Garry Stratton, and Ruth Stratton-Halchuk. He held a special place in the hearts of his nephews and nieces.Dad spent his time as an amateur mad scientist growing up in his hometown of Englehart. His passion for science, astronomy, physics and particularly chemistry got him into trouble more than once as a child, but also brought him lifelong satisfaction. First launched by his father’s career with the railroad, Dad’s interest in trains developed into a hobby in model trains and a source of fascination in the various workings of locomotives. A consummate salesman and entrepreneur, his career covered an enormous breadth of subjects. From an earlier beginning in newscasting, to owning a sanitation company in Jamaica, the only constant in his career was change. It was his career that led him to move to southern Ontario, where he married young and had two children. He then moved with his family to Sault Ste Marie. He later returned to southern Ontario, remarried and had two more children. In his leisure time, he could be found in his favourite reclining chair watching the world juniors hockey or bemoaning the fate of the Maple Leafs, at times sneaking in a nap between periods. He loved a good game of crokinole or chess.
In accordance with Dad’s wishes cremation has taken place with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. We would like to acknowledge the exceptional and compassionate care Dad received from Welland Hospital in both the Interim Long Term Care and Extended Care Units. It meant a lot to us that Dad was so well cared for. In that vein, any wishing to donate to the Niagara Health Foundation’s Extended Care (Welland) would be a fitting tribute to Dad’s memory.

I was so sorry to hear of Trevor’s Passing. He was our second cousin and spent a lot of time in Toronto at our house.
My Dad, Gordon Hurlburt, helped Trevor buy his first motorcycle and my Mother, was Trevor’s Mom, Gwen’s first cousin and they were very close.
My sister, Sharon and I used to babysit Little Trevor and Peter when they lived in Downsview. We were very close to Glenna, Trevor’s first wife.
My condolences go out to all of the family.
Trevor, I would like to make contact with you, as we are not far away from each other. I have some questions about Land Acknowledgment and would love to discuss.

I’m very saddened to hear of Uncle Trevor’s passing. He was the last of that generation in our family. Trevor meant so much to our mom (Ruth) who adored her little brother. They remained very close over the years and for many of the later years they often spent hours on Skype. Trevor loved to tell Mom about his latest ventures, his views on politics, the latest thing he’d heard about new technology and on and on. He had a brilliant mind and Mom loved to hear him talk.
A donation has been made to Niagara Health Foundation’s Extended Care (Welland) in the name of Ruth Stratton-Halchuk.
Trevor, Peter, Richard, Raymond and all the families. So sorry to hear of Trevor’s passing. Hopefully all the good memories will help you all through this difficult time. RIP Trevor.
So sorry for your loss.
