Obituary of Sylvia Bonisteel

Peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 12, 2023 Sylvia Bonisteel passed away at Gilmore Lodge and was reunited with her husband Butch and her parents. She is survived by her son Gordon Bonisteel (Veronica), daughters Peggy Turpin (Charles) and Stacey Fox (the late Scott), grandchildren James (Laura), Jordan, Spencer, Emily, Ben and Hayden. She will also be terribly missed by "her dogs" Little Miss Olive and Rookie.

Sylvia was born in Dunnville but spent most of her years in Welland. She enjoyed a 38 year career at the Y.M.C.A. She would spend her time crocheting, sewing and knitting baby blankets as well as doing word puzzles and watching N.C.I.S.

She will be lovingly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. A private interment has been held at Woodlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Sylvia's memory may be made to the Gilmore Lodge Auxiliary and would be appreciated by her family. Many thanks to the staff at Gilmore Lodge for the care and compassion shown to Sylvia during her stay there.

Sylvia was a fixture at our local YMCA, and was truly kind to me after the birth of my oldest child. She showed up at our house with hand made baby blankets, and a bassinet so I could keep him right beside my bed. She made quilts or crocheted baby blankets for all my babies, and they were snuggled and cherished by each one of them. She was a thoughtful person who who’d do anything for those she considered friends. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
