Obituary of Susan Wilcox (neé Hamilton/Petrie)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Susan, peacefully on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at the Douglas Memorial Hospital, in her 76th year. She was survived by her beloved husband, Brad Wilcox, her children: Tammy (Scott) Hall and Paul Petrie, grandchildren: Chelsea and Courtney, and great-grandchildren Angela and Eve.

Susan was best described a selfless and giving person and was always there to help those in need. Her greatest passion over the past 40 years was being a basenji breeder, although she truly loved all breeds of dogs, especially puppies. Susan built many wonderful friendships through the years with her memberships and positions in the Canadian Kennel Club, The Basenji Clubs of Canada and USA, Erie Shores Kennel Club (Vice Pres.), and the Seaway Kennel Club. She enjoyed showing dogs whether they were hers or for other people. Susan also loved wine making, quilting, ceramics and photography. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.

A special thank you to her team at Douglas Memorial Hospital, especially Dr. Scher, for their care and support. Arrangements are entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. Cremation has taken place. In memory of Susan, an act of kindness or a donation to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Online condolences may be shared on Susan’s tribute page found at EssentialsNiagara.com.

Brad, I am very sorry for your loss. I have met Sue several times at shows and she was always happy to help us when we were newbies to showing. I have never met a more cheerful person. She is in Heaven with all her basenjis, having fun. Take care
