Obituary of Susan Elizabeth Bourassa “Sue”
After a long illness bravely endured with strength and determination, Susan Elizabeth Bourassa, lovingly known as “Sue,” passed away peacefully at Welland Hospital on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, in her 75th year.Sue was the beloved wife of Bob for nearly 40 wonderful years. She was a loving and thoughtful mother to Carrie (Brent), Matt (Lexi), Sean, and Sherri, and took immense pride in her family. Sue was the ultimate “Nanny,” who would dote on her grandchildren: Chelsea, Aiden, and Trent. She treasured every moment spent with them, whether playing for hours, sharing stories, or simply being together. Sue will be lovingly remembered by her extended family, including her sister-in-law Liana (Will) and her niece Melanie, whose care and support meant so much to her over the years. She also shared a special bond with her beloved pets, especially Dakota and her very old cat, Kitty. Sue had a deep love for animals throughout her life. Sue has now been reunited with her beloved sister Dianne and brother Will, both of whom she missed dearly.
Born and raised in Port Colborne, Sue remained a proud lifelong resident of the community she loved. She was happiest at home, often watching the birds and squirrels outside her window, tending to her gardens, or flipping through her treasured collection of old cookbooks and handwritten recipes. Sue was known for her delicious shepherd’s pie and countless other comforting meals, all lovingly made in “Sue’s Kitchen.”
Sue had a spirited personality and many unique passions. She was particular about keeping a clean home, dedicated to fitness in her younger years with her in-home aerobics routines, and was a true night owl who could stay up into the early hours watching movies and television. She especially loved true crime shows, Law & Order: SVU, horror films, and classic favourites like I Love Lucy. Her collections of Snoopy and Peanuts memorabilia, clowns, and frogs reflected her fun and quirky side. Some of her children’s fondest memories are of staying up late with Mom to watch scary movies together.
When her health allowed, Sue loved travelling throughout North America and looked back on those adventures with great happiness. She also enjoyed simple pleasures such as bonfires, quiet evenings at home, and time spent with those she loved most.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers and healthcare professionals who supported Sue with compassion and kindness, especially her palliative doctor, Dr. C. Manser, her nurse Jocelyn Molnar, who visited the home daily, nurse Agatha at Welland Hospital, the nursing team, and PSWs Diana and Shirlene of St. Elizabeth Health Care. Special thanks are also extended to niece Melanie for her loving care and support. The family would also like to thank their extended family and friends for their many check-ins, kindness, and support.
In keeping with Sue’s wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements have been entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Niagara SPCA and Humane Society (Port Colborne Shelter).

My family and I have many fond cherished memories of Sue. The many bonfires we had, the girls get togethers at Sue house for some of her wine and chit chat. She welcomed my family into hers and the friendship just continued to blossomed through out the years. Her love for her family was obvious as she spoke highly of them on facebook. Her many post of photos of what she had to eat that day or her fancy pedicures, they just came to a sudden stop. When that happened I realized how much I missed seeing those post , how much I miss hearing her voice and her hugs after we all got together. Sue fought so hard for the many times she got sick because she told me she was not ready to go just yet. Carrie my amazing strong friend, thank you for welcoming my family. for letting us be apart of your family. Love to all and to Sue May God speed
My heart goes out to all of you. Sue fought this and denied 3x’s the terminal diagnosis out-living and out doing far beyond her life expectancy, cherishing every moment she had with all of you, her family she dearly loved. I will always remember the sound of her laughter, her comment ” Okay Liana”, very thankful for the love she’s shown me and all the treaured memories.
Sending love and big hugs to all the family from my parents, my children and spouses and myself. Xoxo
May your treasured memories be a comfort.
Our deepest condolences
