Obituary of Susan Elizabeth (Bernadette) Atkinson

With heavy hearts we announce, Susan Elizabeth (Bernadette) Atkinson, passed away peacefully, after a courageous battle, surrounded by all the love from her family on Monday, August 29, 2022, just shy of her 50th wedding anniversary. Beloved wife and best friend of Harold. Loving daughter of the late Harry and Rachel Brown. Devoted mother to Shelley Farrow (Jeff), Rhonda Atkinson (Greg), Melissa Atkinson (Luke). Cherished Grandmother to Holly (Alex Hollinshead), Emily (Colton Smith) Chloe, Jamie-Leigh, Gwen, Taya, Tyse, and Thomas. Great grandmother to Addisyn and Harrison. Beloved sister of the Brown family Mary Jean Johnson(late Rick Johnson), late Mike Brown (Debi Brown Rutledge) Julie Poupore(late Tom Poupore) Tim Brown (Cara Rose Brown), Dave Brown. Daughter-in-law of late Ralph and Sylvia Atkinson. Cherished sister-in-law of the Atkinson family. Gary and Rose, Shane and Rose, Brian and Laura, Albert and Wendy, Beverly Kelly. She will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, neighbours and all who knew her.

Susan's passion in life was her family. She was always involved whether it was going to dance recitals, soccer games, walks to neighbourhood parks, trips to Zoos, Great Wolf Lodge, and simply checking in on a daily basis. Sue was the official family photographer/videographer and never missed the opportunity to capture a moment. She will always be remebered for humming while she pottered around the house and how she sang sing-a-longs with the kids. Her voice was gentle and always kind. She was love personified! Susan was a dedicated employee of the Welland County General Hospital for over 30 years. She was a devoted co worker and caregiver to many. Her presence will be missed everywhere in our homes, community and even on Facebook. She had a gift for writing the most beautiful messages. Mom always knew what was truly important.

Special thank you to the Walker Family Cancer Centre, Dr. Leveque, and St. Elizabeth Palliative Nurses. Deepest gratitude to Tim and Kelly Borowski and family as well as Jessica Coyne. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers donations in her honour can be made to Walker Family Cancer Centre.

Harold & Family…sending our love and prayers to all of you. Sue will truly be missed by all of you…especially her grand babies. She was one of the warmest people I knew. Lost contact over the years but reconnected on Facebook…we had lots of laughs, tears and shared recipes. Harold, if you need a shoulder please call Bob he’s not a big talker but he knows how to listen.
You will be in our thoughts and prayers.
May Sue RIP

Memories. That’s the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about cousin Sue and husband Harold.
Family, past and present, bring on and share those memories.
A loved one has left us, but the memory of Sue remains.
Gods speed Harold! Gods Speed.

Such a beautiful tribute of a life lived to the fullest, often in care of others. It’s so fitting that she’d be surrounded by all that love in her last hours on earth. In in our neighbourhood growing up on Biamonte Pkwy across the street from the Browns, Sue, like all the Browns, felt like an extension of the Russell family, Just in case my six siblings and parents weren’t enough, we always had the Browns to fall back on. Sue was another “big” sis. Glad to hear that she went peacefully surrounded by all she loved. Her life will be celebrated ❤️

Rest In Peace dear friend. There is not a right word to describe what you were to so many people. You were so loved, I remember touching your long blond hair, so often, especially when things were stressful on the hospital floor where we worked. Your family were so lucky to have you and they were so aware. I will miss your beautiful words on Facebook. I will just miss you!

Dear Harold and Family, we send along our sincerest sympathy. We have a memory of meeting up with Sue at Chippewa Park where your grandchildren welcomed ours and shared buckets for playing in the sand. If it’s true that all people have an invisible bucket, then Sue was definitely a bucket filler. We wish you comfort and peace.
