Obituary of Susan Dawn Pauls

It is with great love that we remember our beloved mother, Susan Pauls who passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at the age of 67. She is a cherished mother to her children, Jevon (Monique) and Jeremy (Annette), and cherished grandmother of Jackson, Eva, Owen, and Ethan. Sue is survived by her loving mother, Joyce Sparks (Roy), and her brother, Christopher Walshaw (Martin). She has been reunited with her late husband, Bryan Grainge, and her father, James Walshaw. Sue will be greatly missed by her cousins, childhood playmates, Ian, Stephen, Jacqui, and by her extended family, along with many friends who held her dear.

Sue emigrated from England to Canada as a teenager and made Niagara her home. She spent most of her career in the hospitality industry, working at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Legion and the Prince of Wales Hotel. Sue’s warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew her, from co-workers to customers. The outpouring of support she received through a fundraiser for her medical care is a testament to the positive impact she had on her community.

Sue was happiest when surrounded by loved ones, great music, and the wind in her hair while riding with Bryan. She had a deep passion for her collection of turtles—so much so that if you ever gave her a gift, it was likely a turtle.

Her grandchildren were the light of her life. The birth of her twin grandchildren would also mark the first milestone of her receiving her first speeding ticket, as she anxiously made her way up north to see her new bundles of joy; to which she had no regrets! Sue loved taking all four of her grandchildren on car rides, with the windows down, music blasting, and all of them singing along at the top of their lungs. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her grandchildren. Whether it was taking them swimming or treating them to Avondale ice cream and cookies, then taking that special treat home to enjoy it in Grandpa’s bed, even when Grandpa said "no." Her love for them was unshakeable, and the bond they shared was clearly evident in every moment spent together.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at Garden City Manor in St. Catharines for the compassionate care Sue received during her final days.

Cremation has taken place, and arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. A Celebration of Life in honour of Sue will be held in the New Year. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sue's name may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 124. Online condolences may be shared on Sue's tribute page found at EssentialsNiagara.com.

First, I am so sorry to the family – her boys whom I know loved her immensely. I got to know Sue throughout my entire teen years and grew to love her too. You couldnt help it. I bet she made the best Grandma. Again im so sorry to all who lost her.
Rest peaceful Sue.

I remember Sue with love from when I was young and played with Jevon. It’s not surprising to read how special she made her grandchildren feel when they visited because I remember being treated sweetly by her also.
What I will always remember is her smile.
Praying for comfort and peace for all who loved Sue – especially her mom, my cousins and their kids. ♥️
