In Loving Memory of
Stephen Farner

Obituary of Stephen Farner
Passed away peacefully on Saturday June 3, 2023 , in his 94th year, with his daughter Debra by his side. He will be joining his beloved wife Marilyn (2020) and son Paul (1973). Steve was a loving dad to Debra McLeod (Larry) and proud papa to Sean McLeod (Jenna) and Adam McLeod. He adored his great-grandchildren, Robyn, Anderson and Noah. Steve also leaves behind his sister Margaret Cyr, sister-in-law Elizabeth Campbell as well as his nieces and nephews.Steve was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and moved to St. Catharines with his family in 1939. He attended Alexander School and St. Catharines Collegiate. This is where he met Marilyn, and they were together for 70 years before her passing. Dad always said, she was the best thing that ever happened to him!
After graduation he was involved in the residential home building business for 20 years. He then joined the Ministry of Labour where he worked for 15 years before his retirement.
He was a very proud member for 39 years of the St. Catharines Kiwanis Club. He was very involved in the building of the Kiwanis Park Seniors Building on Geneva Street.
Steve was an avid five pin bowler and was a charter member of their association. He was also a member of the Master Bowlers Association. He made many lifelong friends through bowling, and also enjoyed teaching children how to knock those pins down. He also loved to golf, and belonged to the St. Catharines Golf and Country Club since 1953. He has been an honorary member for the last 20 years. He spent many happy years there, golfing with his friends, Marilyn and his grandsons.
Steve was a very quiet, unassuming man. His family was everything to him, and he worked very hard to make sure we had a good life. He and Marilyn travelled, had many good friends and enjoyed their life together. He was very proud of his family, and always wanted to know how his grandsons and great-grandchildren were doing.
Steve will be greatly missed, and will be in our hearts forever. As per his wishes, he will be cremated with no visitation or service. He will be laid to rest at a later date. If desired, donations may be made to Arthritis Society Canada on his behalf.

Remembering you Deb from early school days. Praying you find comfort in the days ahead.
Dear Debbie,
Sending my heartfelt condolences to you and your family on the loss of your dear father. Knowing he is with your mom and brother I hope will bring you comfort at this difficult time.
I have many fond memories one of which was you and your family learning to water ski in Muskoka. After many attempts you never gave up and finally succeeded as we all watched from the dock!
May your loving memories of your father bring you smiles and comfort in the days ahead.
He will be missed! 🙏🏻❤️
Thinking of you Debra with the loss of your dad…
I have so many memories of Steve and Marilyn and of Debbie and Paul. Growing up, I could hardly wait to see their snazzy convertible pulling in our driveway. I’m glad he will be reunited with his son and wife, but also know it will leave a huge hole in Debbie’s life. We are thinking of all of you ❤️
Debra and family. Our deepest condolences on the loss of your father. May he rest in peace. We hope all of you find comfort in your loving memories of times past. Sending love to you all.
