Obituary of Soren "Gert" Andersen
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Soren “Gert” Andersen on October 7, 2025, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital. Gert was a devoted husband, cherished father, proud grandfather, and loyal friend. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Margaret Andersen (née Ireland), and his sons, Aaron Andersen (Kelly Overall) and Todd Andersen. Gert’s memory lives on through his grandchildren: Michael Dutot, Ayden Andersen-Burns, Kayden Andersen, Noah Andersen, and Heaven Gadula, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings: John Andersen, Leila Gumbley (Charlie), Jimmy Andersen (Alice), and Erik Andersen (Kathy), along with his step-father Knud Josefsen. Gert is reunited in peace with his parents, Kia and Grethe Andersen, and his dear sister, Lilli Andersen.A lifelong lover of the outdoors, Gert found joy on the golf course, where he could often be found enjoying a round with friends. He embraced many camping adventures, and in his younger years, the thrill of playing hockey as a goalie. His warm, easygoing nature made him a comforting presence to all who knew him.
He leaves behind many dear friends, including Wig Fast, George and Janice Schachtsnieder, Rick and Lillian Kerber, Frans and Brenda Ringma, and Linda and Herb Fitz.
Gert’s kindness, humor, and quiet strength touched the lives of many. He will be remembered always with love, laughter, and gratitude.
In keeping with Gert's wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation or Diabetes Canada. A celebration of life will be held on November 1st at Stamford Lane United Church, 3855 St Peter Avenue, Niagara Falls, L2J 2N7 from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Condolences to you and your family. I worked with Gert and he was great to work with.
I am deeply saddened to learn of Gert’s passing. I have know Gert for many years, and I’ve noticed he seemed to lighten the mood, no matter the situation. A wonderful sense of humour. He will be missed!
My heartfelt condolences Margaret, Aaron Todd, and grandchildren.
Condolences to Margaret and the family on Gerts sudden passing.
Dear Margaret and Family – we were so sorry to hear about Gert. We have fond memories of both of you from the Idyllic transatlantic cruise we took on the Epic – so many meals, conversations and evenings we shared together as a group. A very special time .
I am sorry to hear of Gert’s passing. We were in the same class at Col. John Butler Elementary School. I remember Gert lived close to the school and would go home for lunch. I have not seen Gert in many years and wondered where life took him. I send sincere condolences to his family.
