Obituary of Ronald James Robertson

In his 86th year, after a long struggle with Parkinson's, Ron peacefully passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Tabor Manor with his son beside him. Married for 63 years, Ron leaves behind his beloved wife, Nadyne. Loving father to Jeffrey (Karen) and proud grandfather to Abigail and Olivia Robertson. Predeceased by his siblings, Robert, Geraldine, and Donna Jean.

Born and raised in St. Thomas, Ontario, to Clare and Annie Robertson, Ron moved to St. Catharines in 1957 to be an elementary school teacher and to marry his high school sweetheart. He later decided to pursue a career in sales before founding Thermfill Insulating in the 1970s. His attention to detail, a genuine desire to help his customers, and the support of talented employees helped him succeed in these endeavours.

In his retirement, Ron was able to pursue his love of golf and badminton and he won several seniors awards in both. He always enjoyed the competition and the camaraderie of partners and opponents alike. He was also a keen fisherman (who never caught as many fish as his tenacity meritted) and an avid gardener, particularly of Swiss chard (to his young son's disappointment) and heirloom tomatoes (to more general approval.) Throughout his life, Ron enjoyed a good laugh, whether from the poetry of Ogden Nash, Jerome K. Jerome's Three Men in a Boat , or the films of The Marx Brothers (which Nadyne could never quite comprehend). Ron greatly valued the fellowship of his Christian brothers and sisters over many years.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Radiant Care Tabor Manor, for their excellent support for Ron over the past three years. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life for him will be held at our Chapel Ridge Free Methodist Church, 5660 Flewellyn Road, Ottawa, Ontario K2S 1B6, on October 9, at 11 AM followed by a light luncheon. Everyone is invited to join them at this time. Masks and social distancing will be expected. To help with the luncheon planning and seating arrangements, please RSVP to Linda Roth at [email protected]. Online condolences may be shared on Ron’s tribute page found at EssentialsNiagara.com. Memorial donations may be given to Parkinson Canada.
