Obituary of Roger Charles Shannon

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Roger Charles Shannon on Friday June 20, 2025, at the age of 84. Roger met the love of his life Margot at the age of 20 and they spent 64 happy years together. He was the beloved father to Greg (Michelle), Darren (Maureen) and Kelly (John), and the proud grandfather of Brendan, Ryan, Jack, Kristie (Spencer) and Cassie. Roger is survived by his sister Pam Shannon (Brian) and sister-in-law Karen Congdon (Bill). He is predeceased by his wife Margot Shannon and his parents Chuck and Meryl Shannon and his sister Beverly Connon (Bob). He will be deeply missed by his extended family including nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends.

As the heart of his family, Roger was the happiest when surrounded by his children and grandkids.

Roger enjoyed spending Sundays by the pool and winters in Florida with Margot and his family. He cherished time with his loved ones and always looked forward to his morning golf games with his buddies and daily work outs at the gym. Roger took great pride in his home. He loved spending his days grooming his lawn and maintaining his gardens. Because of his hard work and dedication to his property, he received multiple Trillium Awards, which made Roger and Margot very proud.

Roger started his career with A&P when he was 16 years old as a buggy boy and over 50 years, he worked his way up to Vice President of the Company. At 60 years old he retired from his executive position from A&P and bought a Food Basic Franchise in Niagara Falls where he spent the next 5 years doing what he loved.

The Shannon family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at GNGH for all their kindness and compassion while taking care of our dad.

The Family will be planning a Celebration of Life for family and friends on August 16th , 2025, at Betty’s Restaurant in Chippawa from 12pm to 3pm. In accordance with Rogers wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements are entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Walker Family Cancer Centre.

Very saddened to learn of the news of Roger’s passing. Roger was a mentor for a number of years in my life and I deeply regret not popping in to see him on my last trip through Niagara. His chuckles, light hearted (and well deserved) ribbing of myself, and most importantly his unwavering display on how to be a good human being will always be cherished. Condolences.

I am so sorry to hear of Roger’s passing. He was the assistant manager at the Cannon Steet A&P when I went to work there in 1969. We kept in touch over the years through our jobs, he in head office and I as the book keeper in the Dunnville A&P. I remember getting rides home from work in his little VW bug sometimes with the boys in tow while in Hamilton. I have so many fond memories of the times shared as an A&P family. His ready smile and good nature were endearing. Condolences to the family.
