Obituary of Rodney Lee Atack
Rodney Lee AtackFebruary 17, 1956 – August 9, 2025
Immersed in the love of his wife and daughters, the strains of Springsteen playing in the background and with a full heart but one no longer strong enough to remain in this life, Rod passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 9, 2025.
Rod was a man of quiet strength and immense integrity, fiercely proud and protective of his family and deeply loyal to his friends. He was greatly respected by those he worked with at both Cyanamid and General Motors. He loved football, soccer (when the Grands played), hunting and especially fishing. He became quite the cook in recent years, his specialty being spaghetti and meatballs and thoroughly enjoyed sharing meals with family and friends. He was a HUGE Springsteen fan, starting married life with wedding bands engraved with 'The Ties That Bind' and acknowledging his final coming days while often listening to 'If I Should Fall Behind'.
Left to mourn his immeasurable loss but to continue his legacy is Sherry, his wife of 44 years, daughters Leah and Brittany (Shiloh) and grandchildren Logan, Easton, Sammy and Theo. Mourning also is Rod's brother Brian (Tania) Atack, brother-in-law Dan (Tracy) Culbert, sister-in-law Niki (Steve) Ward, sister-in-law Merri Lee (Chad) Culbert and their families.
He will be greatly missed by his many friends, both old and new, who were so supportive over the years and most especially over recent months as he faced and conquered significant health challenges. We all draw some comfort knowing that he is no longer in any pain and is now reunited with loved ones waiting to greet him.
We wish to extend our thanks to the doctors, nurses and physio team members at St. Catharines, Welland and Shaver sites who provided Rod with both excellent and compassionate care and to the palliative team who treated us all like their own family. These were all incredible people working within a challenged system that always made us feel as though he was their only patient. Thanks also to Krystal of Essentials for her kindness and guidance.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Chippawa Legion (upstairs), 3860 Legion St, Niagara Falls, on Saturday, September 6th from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m, where we can share memories and honour this incredible man ... yes, Springsteen will be playing.

I had the pleasure of working with Rod at GM. I was in Quality and he was in Material Control. Closely linked departments. Rod was a quiet, even keeled gentleman. Everyone enjoyed working with him and for him. He has passed far too young and I know he will be missed by family and friends
To Sherry and family
Sad to learn of Rod’s passing. He was still in his prime of life. Although it’s been decades since I last saw him, I recognized him instantly from his photo. I have fond memories of playing with him as boys, especially at Aunt Merle and Uncle Orv’s house in Niagara Falls. I always looked forward to visiting, especially when Uncle Orv built fires in their backyard fire place. Funny the things you remember from your childhood.
Brent (Irma and Ted Wilson’s son)
