Obituary of Dr. Robert Douglas Sheppard
A full life can be easily reflected when looking at the one Bob chose to live. Born in January of 1934 as the youngest of 4 boys (Bruce, Ross, Donald) in St. Catharines, he stayed committed to the area for his entire life.Bob approached all of his challenges with purpose including graduating from Ridley College in 1953, and the pursuit of a future in Medicine at the University of Western. He interned at McGill Teaching Hospital for 3 yrs followed by 1 yr of General Surgery at Hamilton General Hospital and launched his own ENT practice on Church St in order to give back to his hometown.
Married to Christine in 1960, it was at this practice that he impacted many people in the Niagara area until 1996 when he returned to assisting surgery for another decade. Bob passed his wit, strong work ethic, open mind and humility on to his children (Elizabeth, Robert) and 4 grandchildren (Marshall, Stuart, William and Emma, and further on to his great grandchild Violet).
He passed peacefully on his own terms, while surrounded by family and holding hands with his partner Gloria. He gained significant energy from the support of many friends who reached out or visited him during his recent challenges. Bob showed an unwavering dedication to his family and career while simultaneously ensuring that there was always space for playing cards, telling a good joke, or a bit of time for his passion of fishing.
In keeping with Bob's wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements are entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services.

My uncle Bob was a kind , funny , dedicated man who always had time for my brother Richard and I .
He was generous and understanding especially to us in our teenage years.
I will remember the trips we took, skiing and fishing and the many family gatherings at his home.He was the last of the four brothers and leaves a big hole in the family.
Jean Wiebe Dr Sheppard was the kindest, gentlest most caring person I knew. I worked with him in the recovery room for 23 years. My condolences to the family.
Sending our sincerest condolences on the recent passing of your father, grandfather, great-grandfather & special friend. Dr. Sheppard and our father Dr. Bob Whyte enjoyed many years of friendly banter in and out of the OR. I like to think they’re back at it now. Thinking of all of you at this very difficult time. Sincerely, The Whyte family.
