Obituary of Robert "Bob" Hutchinson Upper

It is with profound sadness that the family of Robert (Bob) Hutchinson Upper announce his passing. His tired heart stopped beating in the evening of May 4th at the age of 86. He handled his declining health in the past few years as he lived his life, with dignity and strength. He never complained or asked for more than we could give. He has always been our protector and mentor. A calming influence in the chaos of our lives. We already miss him greatly. In earlier years dad was proud of the time he spent in the army as a member of the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME). He was a long time employee of Hendrie Transport, first as a truck driver and then as an international dispatcher. In later years he was a gifted gardener, devoted pet caregiver and an avid historian, having proudly documented our family's history from the 1700's. He was also the past president of Thorold Historical Society and of Grantham Optimist. Dad was loveable with his quick wit and dry sense of humour and will be missed by those at both River Road Retirement Home and Pleasant Manor who helped take such good care of him along with his family physician, Dr. Bastedo. Dad is survived by his two daughters, Sheryl (Paul) Lepp and Lynn (Clint) Sears and his wife Sharron (nee Maybee). He is predeceased by daughter Carole (Charlie) Gilligan (2013) and grandson Robert George Mitchell (Bobby) (1987). He leaves behind his grandchildren Shaelyn (Kenji), Taryn (Nathan), Jesse, Hannah (Jake), Shannon (Liam), Erik (Valentina) and Katie (Nick) and great-grandchildren Malakai, Isaiah, Elijah, Josephine, Hazel and Willow. Cremation will take place at dad's request. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905 354 2133). A celebration of life and interment will take place at a later date at the Upper Family Cemetery.
