Obituary of Robert “Bob” Gearing

Taking his last breath in the arms of his daughter, Bob passed away peacefully at the Welland Hospital, on May 13, 2023, at the age of 80. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Lisa and Jinnene, his grandchildren Cheyenne, Jessica and Vanessa, two great grandchildren, his life partner Diana Reid, his siblings Gary (Sharon), Bill (Jennifer), and by his nephews, nieces, and their families. Bob was predeceased by his eldest brother Doug (Jo-Anne) Gearing and by his parents George and Margaret.

Throughout his life, Bob's favourite pastimes were spent in the Legion and enjoying social times with his friends. Bob will be remembered for his creativity and love for drawing and wood carving. He would often make knives and wood carvings to keep alongside his large collection of legion pins that were kept in his home. A special thank you to his nephew Eric for all of his unconditional support of Bob and our family over this last month.

In accordance with Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at the Thorold Legion, 3 Ormond Street South, on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 2pm-6pm. Memorial donations may be given to your local Legion in memory of Bob.

Rick and Shaunagh Barron next door neighbours for 33 years. Bob would always love to spark up a conversation with Rick while he was working on the truck or whatever the project may be. Always a gentleman. He saw our kids grow up and us as well. We were quite young when we bought the house with a young family. He loved to hear what the kids were up to and hear about their lives as they’ve grown up and became parents as well. We will miss Bob and his wise old sole around the neighbourhood RIP Bob❤️

I’m so sorry for the loss of Bob. He was a friend and a long time neighbour of Vicki and Jim. Bob was always up for a beer or conversation about cars and how we could fix them. He was always there to lend a helping hand. Diane his life time partner is a great person. She never forgot a special occasion and always there for support. We will miss him wondering around the neighbours seeing what he could do. All my love to the family .

Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone during this difficult time Swayze Court lost an icon and Bob will be dearly missed by us all . He always took an interest in what we were doing and always liked chatting with Caitlyn about horse riding . He would have been so happy to hear that she just took an interest in woodcarving herself . She finished her very first project and dedicated it in memory of Bob tonight .

In loving memory ...
I/we pledge to make a memorial donation.

Oh grandpa, you were so talented with woodworking, carving, and making beautiful creations.
When I had the privilege to come visit you and Diane in Ontario it was one of the best memories I still carry and cherish today.
You’ll always be remembered and missed.
