My sincerest condolences on Mr. Woram’s passing. I was fortunate to be a student in both his grade 11 and Grade 13 Chemistry classes in the late 1990s at TH&VS. It was immediately obvious that he was a special teacher – he was not only extremely intelligent, but had a knack for engaging his students and making them want to learn more.
Even after I went off to university to pursue an Engineering degree, I would meet up with him when I was back home during Christmas and spring breaks to discuss what material we were learning, and so he could photocopy my course notes. He was always trying to improve and better prepare his students for what post-secondary education would be like.
I will always remember the twinkle in his eye as he demonstrated a real dust explosion to our chemistry class. It ended with the lid blowing off of his homemade apparatus (as planned) and flames licking across the classroom ceiling. He got such a thrilled reaction from the class that he repeated it a 2nd time with more dust!
He inspired countless students (myself among them), and will be sorely missed.

Heart breaking news. So very sorry to hear of Ricks passing. Me deepest sympathies to Kathy and the family. I first met Rick in 1974/75 when he was my grade 13 chemistry teacher. I also served as his chemistry assistant that year. Little did I know that we would reunite at TH&VS 10 years later in the Science Department. I worked with Rick until he retired and served as a colleague, assistant Head of Department and then Head of the Science Department under his mentorship. He was always there for me as a friend and encouraged me to always strive for better. His friendship and support will never be forgotten. Safe travels my friend. Lots of great memories. Until we meet again.

My deepest sympathy to the family. I had the great pleasure of being Mr. Woram’s lab assistant in Grade 13 at TH&VS. That year he gave me his scientific slide rule at graduation which I still have today. Mr. Woram instilled in me a curiosity and love for chemistry which led me to graduate with a Chemistry degree and a career in science spanning over 45 years. I know I am not along when I say thank you Rick for guiding me as a student and the foundation you built that has lasted a lifetime.
My condolences to the Woram family on the loss of a lovely man. Mr. Woram was a wonderful teacher – so patient with those of us less scientifically inclined! He will be fondly remembered by so many.❤️
My deepest sympathies to the Woram family. Mr Woram was one of my favourite teachers and made learning chemistry so easy.. He will be fondly remembered.

To the Woram Family: My very sincerest of condolences and deepest sympathy to all. He was a wonderful teacher and person. I had him and enjoyed, appreciated him. He will be truly missed but never forgotten by many of us.
Dear Kathy, Jennifer, Rachel and Allison. So shocked to learn of Rick’s passing. My condolences to all of you and your families. I have many fond memories from chemistry class and from babysitting the girls. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Sincerely Gail (Toner) Hanselman
My condolences to the family on his passing. Mr. Woram was a force to be reckoned with. He inspired many of us to simply do better. He was also the once in charge of the “Lamp of Learning” ceremony where a student from Grade 12 would pass along the lamp to the next graduating class president. I can still remember the speech as if it were yesterday. Rest in peace Mr. Woram.
Mr. Woram was my chemistry teacher at TH&VS – I was expecting to dislike the class immensely, but he made the topic interesting, fun and engaging. That was one of the more memorable classes I had there – I still remember we had to do a poster project on an element, and I did one on Radium. By the end of the project, Radium had an entire family! Rest easy, Mr. Woram. My sincere condolences to the family on the loss of a good man.
Rest Gently Mr. Woram. You truly were the best teacher I ever had. To be sure I was not a great student, often detached from academics, sports and other distractions prevailed. Mr. Woram was the singular reason I excelled in his Grade 13 Chem 501 class. I look back on his class so fondly, it was nothing he ever said or did that specifically engaged me, it was his calm purposeful demeanour that inspired me to show my appreciation by not letting him down. A profound educator, a true gentleman, I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing.
