Obituary of Richard "Dick" Shannon

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Richard "Dick" Shannon on Friday, July 29, 2022 in his 78th year at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 52 years Anne (née Robson), his loving children James (Jodi) and Louise (Michael), his cherished grandchildren Jayden, Kimberlyn and Chelsea. He will be terribly missed by all his extended family and by his "Bridge Family".

Following a 32 year military career in the Royal Canadian Airforce, his happiest postings were in the 4 Fighter Wing in Germany between the years 1964 to 1967 and again between 1988 to 1993. His postings in Winnipeg 1971, when he met his beloved wife Anne and from 1986 to 1988 as the Detachment Commander of the Western Region Special Investigations Unit. He served 2 United Nations Peacekeeping tours in Cypress and Syria.

Later in his life, he persevered at playing the game of bridge and achieved a designation of Life Master status. Dick enjoyed playing squash, golfing, was an avid historian and enjoyed discussing World War II and politics. His other hobbies included woodworking and antique hunting at European flea markets. Anne recalls fun times when they travelled to Europe and the Middle East and on Bridge cruises to the Caribbean. He liked attending theater in Stratford and the Shaw Festival. Dear Anne, James, Louise and family
It is with much sadness that our dear friend and neighbour has passed. He will be very much missed by us and our grand children. He was like family to us. The kids have said they already miss seeing him sitting on his chair on the porch each day watching them and enjoying them play their sports in the driveway. We also will miss his neighbourly teasing whenever we appeared in the front yard and our many enjoyable outings. Our many blessings to you all now and In the future, His wonderful family, great memories and knowledge he has left behind will continue to comfort us. Forever in our hearts.
Love Claus, Sandra , Dean, Amanda and grandchildren.

In loving memory ...
I/we pledge to make a memorial donation.

I first met Dick when we attended the Air Force Police course together at Borden in 1964. Over the years we ran across each other in North Bay and Ottawa. We enjoyed at least one fishing trip out to the boonies. It was my pleasure to see him commissioned from the ranks. Anne, and family, please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of a fine man. He will be missed. David & Catherine send
