In Loving Memory of

Raymond 'Ray' Joseph Heffernan

Obituary of Raymond 'Ray' Joseph Heffernan

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Raymond Heffernan announce his passing at the age of 67. Ray passed away peacefully at St. Catharines Hospital on December 23, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Ray was predeceased by his beloved son Jack, his brothers Ron and Aiden, and his parents William and Agatha. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 39 years, Donna, who stood by his side through every joy and storm life brought their way. Their bond was one of loyalty, resilience, and deep love, and her unwavering presence beside him, especially through the most turbulent waters, was a testament to that partnership.

Ray also leaves to mourn his son and best buddy, Jeffrey, and his cherished grandchildren, Teddy and Sophia, who were truly his pride and joy. Also grieving his loss are his brother Bill, sisters Elaine (Wayne) and Janet (Don), as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Ray will be profoundly missed by his lifelong friend, Randy Smith, who was able to spend Ray’s final week at his side in the hospital. The family is deeply grateful for that time together and for the comfort of enduring friendship.

Born and raised in Newfoundland, Ray carried that spirit with him his entire life. When he and his family moved to Ontario in 2000, he brought with him the warmth, humour, and grounded nature that defined him. His unmistakable Newfoundland sense of humour delivered with a quiet smile, put people at ease wherever he went.

Ray’s easy-going manner and kind heart earned him a wide circle of friends. He was a role model not only to his family, but to many of Jeffrey’s friends as well, someone they looked up to, trusted, and admired for his fairness, patience, and steady presence. He had a way of making people feel accepted simply by being himself.

He loved spending time at the trailer park, where he formed lasting friendships and shared many good laughs. Ray retired from Costco two years ago, and his many friends and colleagues there will be saddened to hear of his passing. They will remember his strong work ethic and his ever-present easy smile.

Helping others came naturally to Ray. He was always the first to step in when someone needed a hand, never seeking recognition or thanks. He volunteered for several years at an outreach centre, where he helped provide food and clothing to those in need; work he did humbly and with genuine compassion.

Ray was unassuming, non-judgmental, and above all, kind. That is the legacy he leaves behind. He was a good man; one taken too soon but his influence, his love, and his example will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A visitation will be held at Glen Oaks Funeral Home, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, on Saturday, January 3. Family and friends are invited to gather beginning at 1:30 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m.

To honour Ray’s memory, the family invites you to perform an act of kindness for a friend or a stranger, just as he so often did. If so inclined, donations in Ray's memory to the Walker Family Cancer Centre, would be appreciated by his family.

With a heavy heart, thinking of Donna, Jeffrey, Teddy and Sophia at this sad time. I just received word today of Ray’s passing and was sorry I wasn’t there to support the family as Ray was laid to rest. Our hearts are broken but are comforted knowing that Ray has been promoted to Glory and is in the House of the Lord. He has been reunited with his beloved Jack. Praying for the family who are grieving the loss of Ray who cared and touched the heart of so many.

Deepest sympathy Donna and your family. Ray was a great man who meant so much to many. Ray took me under his wing in the early years to help me learn the meat trade. We shared many laughs, as he did with everyone he met. He was an honorable man and was well respected wherever he went. He will be missed. Hope you can find some comfort that he was respected by many people, especially during this difficult time. Take care.
