Obituary of Raymond Thomas Dufour
Raymond “Ray” Thomas Dufour, born on June 13, 1941, peacefully departed this life at his home on May 30, 2024.He was predeceased by his loving parents, Ulderick and Marie Louise, and his siblings Victor and Alain (Françoise).
Ray is survived by his devoted spouse Marjorie and their cherished daughter Nancy, as well as his siblings Damien, Claude (Liz), Mariette (Guy), and Rollande (Jacque). He leaves behind a legacy of love and memories for his niece Marianne (Paul-Alain), nephew Jean Rene, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Ray had a special affection for his two Huskies and Nancy's yellow lab, finding solace and companionship in their presence.
For forty years, Ray served as a wheelsman on the Great Lakes ships for Canada Steamship Lines, a career that often took him away for months at a time. His final voyage was aboard the Jean Parsien (now the Assiniboine) in 2007, marking his retirement at the age of 65.
In his leisure time, Ray found joy in the simple pleasures of life: riding motorcycles, engaging in card games, and exploring the great outdoors through camping. He was a skilled craftsman, demonstrating his creativity through hobbies such as macramé, crafting planes out of pop cans, and fashioning leather belts. Ray was also avid hockey lover and a devoted fan of the Montreal Canadiens.
Ray and Marjorie shared a passion for travel, particularly enjoying journeys to Texas and Florida in their RV. Throughout it all, Ray’s infectious sense of humor lit up every room he entered, leaving smiles in his wake.
In keeping with Ray’s wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements are entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ray's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A private family gathering will be held to honor and celebrate Raymond's remarkable life. His final resting place will be in Île aux Coudres, QC, at a later date.

My sincere condolences to Maggie and Nancy
His two dogs certainly miss him and cry for him still, one not eating and refusing treats!
Maggy & Nancy,
This terrible news has made me very sad. You know how much I loved my uncle Raymond, and that’s what makes me so sad. It was hard not to like him.
He was a real barrel of laughs, and was often with us, especially in our teens, at family dinners with my parents. My brother’s idol, and very much there for me when I lost my parents, just to be in his big arms was such a comfort to me.
He phoned and sent me a message recently for my birthday on May 3, which I will cherish and keep.
That’s how I’ll remember him, and especially the happy times with him.
I send you my most affectionate thoughts and I’ll see you soon Maggy xx

Maggy & Nancy,
