Obituary of Novajean Jamieson

Peacefully on Thursday, November 12, 2020, Novajean passed away at the Salvation Army Eventide Home, at the age of 80. Cherished mother of Shari (Jeff) Ball and loving Granny of Colin. She will be dearly missed by her brother-in-law John Oswald, niece Tammy (Steve) and their children: Kayleigh, Ryan, Matthew, and also by her nephew Jay (Roxanne) and their children JW and Willow. She was predeceased by her sister Linda Oswald.

Novajean was a long time teacher for the District School Board of Niagara, and spent many years teaching at Martha Cullimore Public School, in Niagara Falls. She was proud to be part of the Niagara Falls Music Theatre Society, which allowed her to be creative and share her talent with her local community. We will remember her as a quiet yet outgoing lady, who loved to travel the world, enjoying many trips through Africa and Europe. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

A special thank you to Major Renee and the team at Eventide Home for their compassionate care and support. In accordance with Novajean's wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements are entrusted with Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133). A Celebration of Novajean's life will be held at a later date, when it is safe for family and friends to get together. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be given to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Online condolences may be shared on Novajean's tribute page found at EssentialsNiagara.com.

I was so sorry to hear of Ms. Jamieson, she was a wonderful person. She had a great voice, and spunk, she always made us feel so special. She came to so many of my ringette games and orchestra concerts.

I will miss your “evil eye”, your passion for teaching and for your students.

We are so lucky to have known you and learned from you. My condolences to the family 💐

Ms. Jamieson was one of my favourite teachers throughout my years of schooling. I was lucky enough to be taught by her 2 years in a row (Grades 3 and 4)! She was excellent at teaching and cared so well for her students. The classroom had a piano, where I first learned to sing the songs, “This Land is Your Land” and “The Provinces of Canada are Fun to Remember.” She comes to mind whenever I hear these songs or watch The Sound of Music. She played a pivotal role in organizing the spring shows each year – my favourite year was the year the school performed songs from The Lion King. Bingo and Heads Up, 7Up were favourite classroom games we played. I remember one day, to my great embarassment, I accidentally called her “mom” and it gave her a good chuckle. Her printing on the chalk board was practically a font it was so neat. Once I moved on from Martha Cullimore, she lived one street over from my family, and I would sometimes get to chat with her. My sincere condolences to the family.

I worked with Novajean for four years in the late 80’s and I remember her passion for teaching and sharing her love of music with her beloved students. She was a kind, caring and fun mentor. She touched many lives.and we were all fortunate to have shared even a small part of her life. May your fond memories give you strength in the coming days.

Ms. Jamieson was one of my favourite teachers at Martha Cullimore, and one of the reasons why I became a teacher myself. To this day, I remember her bulletin board that read “A day without music is like a day without sunshine”, and our songs we would sing as part of our morning routine. My whole family is saddened to hear of her passing, she was so well loved by all of us.

I remember Novajean from many years ago when she was my sister Nancy’s teacher at Parliament Oak School in Niagara on the Lake. Many years later we connected when we were both teaching at Martha Cullimore. Novajean touched the lives of many who still remember her fondly. Cherish your memories.

Novajean was my teacher for Grade 5 and i have never forgotten her. Her gift for music was evident in the classroom and I still recall some of the pieces she taught us. I am sure I wasn’t the only 10 year old girl who wanted to grow up to be just like her. Kindest condolences to the family.
