Noshir Irani Obituary
In Loving Memory of

Noshir Sohrab Irani

1933 ~ 2022

Obituary of Noshir Sohrab Irani

Noshir passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his adoring family at his home in St. Catharines on October 27 th , 2022. He was in his 90 th year.
Noshir was uniquely individual from the start. Of his four siblings, he was the one who ventured away from home. He could hold his own at any sport without formal instruction, he enjoyed music and singing was a hobby, again without formal instruction. In fact, formal instruction didn't really suit Nosh. Through school, his favorite subject was mischief. Until his curious and questioning nature led him to England where, to the marvel of his parents, he became a P.Eng. As a Chief Engineer in the Merchant Marine, Noshir lead a life of adventure that took him to every corner of the earth.  He held his love of travel, language and culture with him throughout his life. His stories and perspectives were a source of great entertainment to all and will never be forgotten. In 1968, he chose Canada as the place he would hang his hat and live out his greatest adventure: being an extraordinary father, a magical grandfather (Bomas) and a loyal friend. He came here to give his daughter a better life, something for which she is eternally grateful.

Noshir had many interests. The animal kingdom fascinated him as did space travel. He woke us up to witness every space launch no matter the hour. In retirement, the stock market became an expensive, yet
captivating pastime for him. Boo yah!
Noshir was a warrior. Vigilant about being healthy and independent. Until Covid arrived, he would swim laps at the Brock pool every other day. From the age of 63, he battled three separate cancers. It was the
third one, one that had been waiting in the sidelines from his days on the ship, that finally took his breath away.

Noshir's devotion to his family was boundless. He showed us what it meant to love unconditionally. He taught us by example what really mattered in life. He brought us joy, comfort and encouragement every step of the way.  He believed in us unwaveringly. Nothing was unattainable for his dear ones. And when life threw its curve balls, Noshir faced adversity with courage and grace, over and over. His highly anticipated visits were cause for celebration no matter the reason. Nosh was so very proud of his children and his grandchildren. We could always count on him for his support and his guidance too, whether or not we appreciated it at the time. A child at heart, Bomas cherished participating in Zachary and Siena's lives at every opportunity, often as their equal, to their delight. Halloween and fireworks at home will never be the same. He will remain a cherished treasure, truly one of a kind.

Nosh left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He touched all our lives with his kindness, positivity and sense of humour.  Noshir will be greatly missed by his partner, Aarti, by his first wife and mother of his children, Nargis, by his ever-loving daughter, Youtaz (Peter Wood), by his adoring grandchildren, Zachary and Siena, by his brother, Rustom, and friends and relatives around the globe. He will be reunited with his beloved son Cyrus (2016).

Nosh was a man who lived his life on his own terms. He left this world without regrets. He held firmly to his values and ardently defended what he believed to be just.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all those who supported Nosh in his final months and days.
In keeping with Noshir's wishes, cremation has taken place after a private family gathering. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services. Prayers were done in accordance with Zoroastrian tradition. If desired, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Sending heartfelt condolences to you and your family especially to my sister Aarti who was by his side to take care of him until his last day. Although I did not get chance to meet him in person, I feel like I knew him so well just by talking with him on the phone. Nosh was very loving and caring person.

May his soul rest in peace.

Harsha & family (Aartis” sister)
