Obituary of Norman Leslie Neudorf

NEUDORF, Norman Leslie, “Norm” “Pops” Formerly of Wainfleet, Ontario, passed away at the age of 73, Wednesday October 25th at 6:55 pm. Norm was the youngest son of George and Susan Neudorf. Brother to Ed, his late brother Stanley, Shirley & Marlene. Lovingly, he is survived by his son Michael, daughter-in-law, Kimberley, and his pride and joy, granddaughters Brooklyn & Maisie.

My Dad lived an extraordinary life. As a member of the McRae’s Senior “A” Fastball team, along with standout pitcher and brother Ed, they won the Ontario Fastball League Championship in 1974. In 2004, Norm, his brother Ed and teammates were recognized for their outstanding achievements by being inducted into the Niagara Falls Sports Wall of Fame. Among his sporting endeavours, Norm was an avid outdoorsman. Starting from a young age, he became a pro hunter, archer and angler, collecting many trophies along the way.

Ultimately his love of outdoor sport led him, along with a team of friends, to rebuild and restore the Niagara Falls Archery Club. For his efforts, he was selected as the President of the Club; a title he held until he could no longer physically do so. Not only was my Dad a standout athlete and outdoorsman, he was also a super fan and supporter. He loved his Toronto Blue Jays and his Maple Leafs.

However, some of our best memories are following around his nephew, Matt, while he carved out a pro career in the Ontario Hockey League playing for the Peterborough Petes. Every weekend we were off to some hockey town in Ontario to watch my cousin develop into a future NHLer. Then, we did it again! This time following around Norm’s best friend, Wayne Virag, and his son Dustin’s burgeoning pro career with the North Bay Centennials.

Our sports journey reached a pinnacle in 2008 when my Dad and I booked our trip to the Arizona desert. Live in Glendale, Arizona he and I watched the New York Football Giants stop the undefeated New England Patriots perfect season in the Super Bowl. What a game. What a memory together. Norm wasn’t just defined by athletic achievements. During his time with McRae’s, my Dad became an outstanding tradesman and later successful business owner taking care of the HVAC needs for the greater Niagara community for over 40 years. However, Norm’s crowning achievement was the person he was. Norm was an outstanding humanitarian. He was a devoted father, the World’s greatest Grandfather and loyal friend that cared for his loved ones. He always made an impact through his constant commitment to others and selfless behaviour. He will be deeply missed. We love you Dad.

You belong in a boat out at sea
Sail away, kill off the hours
You belong somewhere you feel free.”

Michael and family,

Norm was a wonderful man who always had a twinkle in his eye. I loved listening to his stories he told while working on my HVAC. He was a kind, dedicated and knowledgeable tradesman.

However, his excellence as a human being is what stood out the most to me. He was a “salt of the earth” man who gave of himself to the community and to those he loved and cared about. I loved talking with him at your wedding reception and his pride in the life you had created for yourself was evident.

The tribute you wrote for him was touching and the perfect send off to a wonderful man. Sending you and the family love and peace.

To Michael and Family
Ed and Family

Our deepest sympathy to the Neudorf family.
Playing softball with Norm and getting my furnace from McRae’s, of course Norm was right there helping. That was the kind of guy he was, helping out a team mate.
What a tribute to your dad and the picture said it all. It was just like yesterday and we were all going to the ball park.

We are so very sorry for your loss. We met Norm when he was referred by a family member to service our furnace many years ago. He was always so personable and reliable. Once he would finish with our furnace he would sit down and we’d enjoy a lovely visit with him. He spoke passionately of hunting, archery and his family. We really liked Norm and will miss the visits we shared.
