Obituary of Myrna Clara Johnston

Johnston, Myrna Clara (nee Korody) married n. Sacco

Passed away unexpectedly with her brother and sister at her side at St. Catharines Hospital on January 29, 2021 in her 80th year. Cherished mom of Janet Sharp (Roy), Mark Sacco and Jennifer Sacco (Martin Bridgman). Loving sister of Ilona (Joe) Annis, Chuck (Patricia) Johnston and stepsister to Kenneth (Christine) Johnston, Ron (Linda) Johnston and Bob (Teresa) Johnston. Adored grandma by grandchildren Matt, Lindsey, Kyle, Marisa, Phillip, Robert, Doris, Great Grandchildren Aiden, Lillian, Colton, Adam, David, Sam, Justin and Maria and missed by her cat Sadie and dog Zoey. Predeceased by; her husband Phillip Sacco, parents Charles and Myrtle, stepfather Kenneth Johnston, stepdaughter Phyliss, stepson Paul nephew Garnet and niece Meghan and great grandson Phillip. Myrna will be missed by all extended family and friends that knew her.

Myrna had a creative mind and placed her heart and soul into the beautiful projects she dedicated much of her time to. She loved to knit and crochet, along with doing beadwork and cross stitch and would frequently give her handmade gifts as presents for holidays to her siblings and grandchildren. When she wasn’t crafting at home, her next favourite and most visited spot was the local library. She would read anything and everything and power through novels in 4 days before returning them to check out more. Myrna worked with her brother for 15 years and would love earning her “Chuckie” money and look forward to saving it for something she really wanted. She enjoyed playing just about every card game in the book with her siblings and friends and going out for dinner afterwards. She was fiercely independent and would dedicate times in a week to take her scooter and go and get groceries, despite being offered help by her family. She was always smiling and will be dearly missed by her family.

The family would like to thank the Nurses and Hospital staff at St. Catharines General Hospital for their kindness and to the ambulance drivers for their dedication to helping her.

Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133) has been entrusted with arrangements. As per Myrna’s wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Myrna’s remains will be buried with her family at Victoria Lawn Cemetery and a celebration of her life will take place at a later date. Online condolences may be shared on Myrna’s tribute page at EssentialsNiagara.com.

There are no words that can possibly comfort all of you at the loss of your Mother. Know that I share your grief. I was so blessed to have her in my life. She was the big sister I never had. I could talk to her and she would always listen and give me advice. She taught me how to crochet and was my biggest fan whether the project was good or bad. I remember playing cards on Sat nights as Chuck and I couldn’t afford to go out anywhere with six kids and no babysitter. Mary, Elsa, Emma and I will miss you at our monthly card games. Mandarin lunches will never be the same..
Our heavenly Father had other plans for you and has welcomed you home with open arms. In my thoughts and prayers

The 5 of us have lost a sister we all dearly loved. We may not have aways been close, but we know how it feels to lose a mother. It is a wound that never heals. Mine and Teresa’s deepest condolences go out to all of the family and friends. Myrna has always held a special place in our hearts and always will.

Myrna was the kindest soul I have ever met and had a wonderful heart. I always looked forward to our monthly mandarin binges and the great chat we would have each time. It was lovely to see her at all the family BBQs and with a smile she watched myself and others get way too competitive during the games. My condolences to all family and friends. God is with us during this time.

I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. Chris and I lost a sister but the loss of your mother will hurt you many times over the years as you remember moments spent together as a family, moments given and treasured from Christmas, Easter and Birthday Parties are but a few.

Take heart and be assured that your mother loved each and everyone of you she often would mention things about her family especially about her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family was important to her.

You will make friends and acquaintances as you go thru life but family is all we ever have that is constant, please do not let go of this. Tell someone in your family you miss and love them each day. May God Bless you all and may he keep your family safe.

Uncle Chuck
