Obituary of Muriel Elizabeth Joseph

Surrounded by the love and presence of her family, Muriel Elizabeth Joseph passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2026, at the age of 84, after battling esophageal cancer with incredible strength and grace just shy of one year.

She was the cherished mother of Wendy Kidd and of her beloved son, Robert “Bobby” Joseph, who has been waiting for her since his passing in 1997. Muriel was a devoted sister to Peggy (Rheal) Marion and Doris (the late Don) Fraser. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, as well as extended family throughout Northern Ontario and Quebec, all of whom will miss her deeply.

From the moment of her diagnosis, Muriel chose to live each day exactly as she wished. She treasured her Saturday afternoons at the Canadian Corps in Thorold, surrounded by friends, music, and laughter. She delighted in the simple joy of buying raffle tickets, often becoming the proud winner of Foodland gift cards. Holidays spent with family, sharing meals and stories, were moments she held close to her heart.

Muriel had a natural warmth that drew people in. A true social butterfly, she found purpose and happiness in volunteering at Cobblestone Retirement Residence. Her kindness did not go unnoticed, and the City of Thorold honoured her with a Recognition Award for her dedication; an award she accepted with humility and pride. She also cherished her Tuesday night bingo dates with her sister, where the two of them seemed to always come home as winners, no matter the outcome.

Honouring her wishes, Muriel remained in the comfort of her home during her final months, surrounded by unwavering love and extraordinary care. Her family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate PSWs and schedulers at Care Partners, Ontario Health Homecare, her devoted nurse Jen R., the EMS Palliative Team, the volunteer drivers at Wheels of Hope, and Dr. Sur from the Juravinski Cancer Centre. A very special thank you goes to her niece Marlene, whose strength, love, and support were a true anchor throughout this journey.

In keeping with Muriel's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Muriel's Life will be held on Saturday April 25, 2026, from 1pm to 4pm at the Canadian Corps Unit #44, 7 Clairmont Street, Thorold, Ontario L2V 1R2.

If desired, donations in Muriel’s memory to the Juravinski Cancer Centre would be appreciated by her family, and would honour the care she received and the courage she showed.

It’s hard to imagine life without Aunty Jane in it. She had a way of making people feel remembered and loved, never missing a special birthday or significant occasion. Those small, thoughtful gestures were a reflection of her big heart and the love she carried for everyone around her. While her absence is deeply felt by family and friends, the warmth she gave so freely will always remain with us. May her spirit continue to live on in the kindness we share and the love we pass forward in her memory. God speed Mary Jane as you are reunited with your beloved son Bobby. With much love, Brian, Marg and family

In loving memory ...
